One of the biggest cracks of thunder I have ever heard. It felt like the house moved then !!!

Raining in Pompey. Slightly a fresher feel under the cloud and light rain.

On the edge-of-my-seat with this riveting weather currently over me. Extremely gripping action.

The core of the MetO amber area seems to have had the least of it thus far!

From the radar looks like the NE will barely see any rain, let alone thunder!

Yet another thunderstorm moving North just to the East of me, close enough to see the lightning in the daylight and with some pretty loud thunder at times as it goes, part of a chain that has developed out of nothing again over the last hour or so.

Another thunderstorm is in progress. This one is more "causal" in nature but quite prolonged with regular flashings and boomings.

Whistable house totally destroyed. While we were there, reports over KFRS radio of another in Rainham, and we were asked to attend yet another in Edenbridge. Firefighters on scene in Whistable, tell me they have been non-stop this morning.

Thunder and lightning pretty much all night and another really intense storm again now. We are right under that thin line over chipping Sodbury if you zoom in on the rain today radar

We were in the amber zone and it's been virtually constant lightning for 9 hours, and as I say, another huge storm right now. Also some really intense rainfall at times.

Snow capital. Lightning capital. What a waste when thunderstorms don't really float my boat. The rest of you would be loving it 👅 😉

Looks like that 'thin line of action' will stay over us for a while

Torrential rain rather that the fireworks though there is the occasional rumble

Nothing here overnight except 0.4mm rain.

However, just caught the edge of a cell passing by to my east which gave out a couple of rumbles. Now up to 0.6mm rain.

I think the storms had all but burnt themselves out by the time they reached me.  I'm a fairly heavy sleeper but there's no way I'd have slept through storms that some of you are describing.  We did get a lot of lightning, some thunder and fairly heavy rain but it wasn't the best electrical activity we've had this summer.

It's grey, raining steadily and 18c, so not feeling very stormy right now either.

Light rain here..leftovers from the southerners main course. There has been some intensification and strikes just offshore to our East so anything could happen!

Turned a negative into a positive by sleeping through a good part of the night

Thoughts are now turning to the daytime events, and already the sun has made an appearance in the sky, albeit a fairly hazy one. This is setting to work on air sat at near 20*C with a dewpoint of around 19*C - it's very humid out there and the available moisture remains large.

Some good breaks in the cloud are opening up over the Channel, ahead of the new storms over N. France.

With the airmass as it is, temperatures look to rocket upward in those sunny spells, mostly towards the SE, with GFS predicting highs of 25-28*C across the southeastern third of the UK.

Then we get to see whether the diurnal heating and lifting is enough to break down the convective inhibition (CIN) left in the wake of the overnight MCSs.

It already looks to be doing the job nicely over N. France, and that's with only the early morning sun to work with!

Thunderstorms pretty much all night between 9pm and 4am. There has been a respite this morning but once again the sky is turning dark to the south and there has been a recent boom of thunder from the south.

Despite all the thundery activity only 4mm of rain has fallen.
