Thunderstorm just moving through Basingstoke at the moment. Clouds whizzing past so it didn't last long. A few booming peels of thunder Quite warm though before the storm arrived. Temperature reached 21.8C

Otherwise and so far, Bertha has been a bit of a damp squib here; a few short bursts of heavy rain and some strong winds but not the hyped-up event that was expected.

It's thundering towards the coast here.
We've had another burst of rain but almost stopped now and only got to 6mm - not much more on radar heading this way now.

Wind picking up here now after a calm morning.

Some showers developing as the sun gets to work on convection too

Just had a 20mph gust in the garden and blew over a couple of pot plants, also had a couple of light showers through the day, other than that quite a nice warm day so far.

After thunder and lightning either side of 9am in Basingstoke, the squall that came through here after 1pm was noteworthy. Some torrential rain and thunder although in my hometown which is further east it was more explosive with notable TL, hail and biblical rain. Sadly my new garage is completely flooded

And the Folkestone Rain Deflector is now back up and running as it killed off that squall line the moment it touched this location.

I'm in Gillingham at the moment - a few flashes and bangs from this morning's squall line, and 2 fence panels gone this afternoon. Other reports from Kent, include yet more flooding in Sittingbourne, Dartford, and Maidstone (I'm sure this is the third time for those places in the last few weeks!), and a tree down on a car in Gravesend (no injuries). In November, this would be not uncommon, but it is quite unusual in August. At least down here it is.

Manual rain gauge - straight sided glass left out on the lawn by mistake - suggests about 30mm of rain here since yesterday. Lively breakfast and very lively lunch storms, now an occasionally gusty, sunny afternoon, actually pretty pleasant out there with lower humidity than of late. Wouldn't've known it was an ex-(named storm) if it hadn't've been all over the media.

Well what a day.  Heavy rain started here about 9am and was continuous, and often very heavy right through to early afternoon.  There were several thundery spells mixed in with the rain.  Much standing water.   Arrived home at 4pm to find a whopping 40mm of rain from just 5 hours of rainfall.   One of the wettest days here for several years.

Now, just looking to my west, and there is a really dark storm cloud brewing...

Not completely tied in with Bertha, but the low that moved up the North Sea yesterday as a precursor to Bertha was really intense for August. The shipping forecast issued at 5pm yesterday had for sea area Viking 'cyclonic becoming SW-ly severe gale 9 to violent storm 11....'

That description would be not bad for a mid winter storm, but for a summer storm is all the more remarkable. A couple of the North Sea platforms had average 10m winds of 50-55 knots for an hour or two before it decreased. Those winds are reduced from values recorded on anemometers high up on the platforms typically 50-70m above sea level, and the raw uncorrected winds at this height would have been 60-65 knots with gusts to 70-75 knots.

Wave heights didn't reach any remarkable heights due to rapid changes in wind direction and speed, and the thankfully short duration of the storm force winds.

My report is pretty much the same as Andy's and not surprising as we live within a few miles as the clouds blow.

Heavy and sustained rainfall all morning and very dark with a few rumbles of distant thunder early afternoon.  The sun did come out for a short time, followed by more rain.  It's not raining at the moment but there are some dark clouds around and the wind's picked up in the past half hour.

The risk is now transfering to scotland and the far north of England. However whatever tropical chararistics the storm had left are nearly gone now, so not expecting anymore significant convective activity, just heavy persistant rain.

The warm moist air is moving into the N sea now, being replaced by cool dry maritime air that will not support thunderstorms.

By midnight the whole of the UK pretty much in the cool dryish air. Ofc there are still likely to be showers as one would expect in a north westerly airstream but they won't be the thunderstorms we have seen earlier today.
