Previous August minimum in Northern Ireland was -1.1C at Loughermore Forest on 21 August 1964. It is not often that we see a national record broken.

You can see historic UK extremes at this link http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/climate-extremes/#?tab=climateExtremes. Go to the temperature by month tab and select Northern Ireland and lowest daily minimum temp.

Ground frost here again so that is the most frosts in August i can recall in this area   It would have been colder still, except there was quite a lot of high cloud.

Min here this morning was 3.1C. Looks like a breeze picked up slightly through the night helping us stay above freezing in the valley.

The met o station across the valley from my mums home in Highland Perthshire had a low of 0.2 C last night with a grass min of -0.5C. It is above the valley bottom on the South facing side and usually records a degree or so above her w/s (not working just now) so I suspect that she had an air frost. Last Friday the weather site had a low of 0.1C so only the second coldest Aug nigh this year last night.
