Kicked off here in Kilmersdon too now with some sharp flashes and bangs. Seems to be drifting across Mendip plateau.

I feel like I've missed out on a lot of active storms this year, but given that there's been a lot more of them overall than in most recent years, I guess that makes a lot of sense!

Crossing my fingers for tomorrow but it does look like a game of pot luck.

A massive area across Europe has warnings for tomorrow and the UK has one too.

The main emphasis is on excessive rainfall here. It's also a highly uncertain outlook due to multiple mesoscale systems and no surefire way of predicting the cloud amounts and distribution tomorrow.

The scale of this plume event is something to behold. If this was high summer we'd be chasing records I reckon!

It depends which cam you are looking at. I have three but by far the best for this type of weather and equally winter weather is the Infra Red one as it shows night vision for both sky and ground and is showing up the Lightning well tonight. It is my garden that is shown with the village Church under renovation in the distance.
As regard to scared, not really but I do get a bit nervous when the flashes are very close. The excitement and wonderment of the spectacle far surpasses any fear though.

Still some flashes to be seen towards Landsdown and Bath. Not hearing any thunder now.

Had a real rattler go over just now, has woken us up. Only minimal amounts of thunder and lightning but the third pairing was almost instant, a huge bright flash virtually accompanied by a massive crackle as opposed to a boom. Now rumbling off NrothbEastwards.

Just had lightning between M40 and M4 on m25 West London. Very frequent lightning but not a lot of thunder while loading at Esso terminal.

Woken by huge rumble at 03:45, now infrequent CtoC but lots of thunder & widdling down almost tropically. Of course, the dog just has to want to go out now...

Back now. Even Humphrey isn't daft enough to go out in this. Lightning every 3-4 minutes, still thunder loud & almost overhead when it happens. Still feels very humid, rain easing but still heavy.

A rare September storm - lovely!

Apparently a storm cell did pass over Kent an hour or two ago according to facebook reports, but I've missed it by having slept through it - unless the Folkestone Shield had been that effective as it doesn't look like that much rain had fallen, not enough to register on the rain gauge where it is just a little moist on surfaces. It is quite foggy and steamy right now, though.

Just come home from working the night shift and have to add to the talk of last nights storms we had here, was by far the best I've seen in years, almost constant thunder and lightning that lasted for some time, and rain that was torrential which turned the works carpark into a lake, brilliant brilliant stuff. Normally I'd say it would feel quite a bit fresher after a storm like that but overnight and this morning it is quite warm and very humid at 97%. You can almost feel the atmosphere getting ready for another bout, I most certainly hope so.

Some rumbles to the south this morning from an active cell over Bournemouth that had been boosted by convergence onshore.

That has since died a quick death, going from dozens of strikes per minute to zero in the space of 15 minutes or so.

Never mind, hopefully some sun will come through soon and surface heating can help out the next batch of activity currently across N. France.

Overnight storms here have amassed over 20mm of rain since 8pm last night. This has been the third bout of overnight thunder and lightning this summer all of it vivid and spectacular and I wouldn't discount some around these parts again today as well.

Great storm last night at about 1:15. Quick, small but loud and intense. Lasted all of 30 minutes. Stealthy approach then torrential rain woke me up. 5 or 6 huge crackly CtoG strikes close by with bright bright lightning, then it was gone. Heard one goodbye rumble in the distance then quiet.

Could really have done with a good night sleep though :|

We had a storm in the last hour - none of the thunder was close, no lightning seen, but the rain was quite intense.

There may have been something in the night as well but I slept through it.
