Well, I thought I would start this thread early seeing the cold and snow is more or less over from tonight, expect for Yorkshire. How would you rate this so called "coldest spell since 2013!?" and the -15c as forecasted.

If you are a mild and weather enthusiast then this discussion will not appeal to you.

But how would you rate this in terms of snowfall and cold/frosts, how much snow did you get and how long did it last?

I rate this 0.5/10

1. We had little frost - Coldest temp was  in Exeter -1.8c which was pathetic (Was colder back on 29th December 2014 at -4.6c in Exeter city).

2. We had no snow falling let alone anything settling.

3. Only a couple sleety hail showers but the majority of the showers went to the north of Devon and into Somerset.

4. The showers that did fall were very light and occurred during the night time when temperatures rose that degree or so giving more in the way of icy rain than actual sleet or wet snow.

5. The coldest day max was +6.2c when we were forecasted a high of +5c a few days ago, max of +6c was hardly cold. There was a colder day back in December (max of +4.9c on 29th). - There were no ice days for England and Wales either.

6. The  forecasts (BBC) were very inaccurate and incorrect. Not just the forecast by Helen Willetts - who forecasted a north-easterly to end this week but even the short term forecasts were poor too.

It was pretty much a non -event for the SW, south and even the SE - many in the south would agree. - I doubt London saw any snow either!?

Sheffield and most of Yorkshire - Get's the snow once again (like on boxing day) and it's still snowing there at 0C as I type - Looks like many places up north did well out of this cold spell except NE Scotland but for the south it was disappointing and never really got that cold enough for any snow to fall at lower levels let alone settle - plus the showers were not so intensive and the majority of showers were light, short-lived and only brought drizzle.

There is always February - and I guess on the positive side there hasn't been relentless rain like last January.

0.5 out of 10 and I am being generous.

Look forward to hearing your scores?

Its been 2/10. Some snow seen - tick. A few hours below zero - tick. In the grand scheme of things, NOT one for the scrapbook IMBY. I had NO expectations so not disappointed, it just wasn't that cold and was quite dry. Dull.

It only got 1 because we had a thin covering of snow last Saturday morning, and that lasted no time. In fact for that reason I'm changing it to a 0/10

I wasn't expecting anything else though. There was never any deep cold to tap into, and without that 'here' in that setup it was never going to be anything special.

Pretty trivial (again unless you live in Sheffield!) but I will remember this cold spell as one of the only times I have seen snow showers to see level on a southwesterly wind.

Away from places with some altitude, this has been rubbish for England & Wales.

I would struggle to award it a 1/10 but I had a -5.6C at 6am on Tues morning which is impressive so although we have had zero snow here I'm going to give this cool spell a 2/10 for the frost on Tues am.

0 out of 10, simply because we've had less than a dusting but maybe a bit early for that score as it may change in the next couple of weeks, wishful thinking but you never know.

Have we had a cold spell? Must have slept through it. On that basis it has to be a big fat zero. This was complete crap and sensationalist nonsense even from rounded BBC weather forecasters was just unbelievable.

Just to add the cold spell we have just had/having is probably the most common for the UK

bog standard marginal snow event's with some frost/fog, and parts of Scotland, higher parts of England/Wales getting the best of the snow/cold

The decent cold spells we have had the last 5 years or so (forget last year ) have most likely raised some people's expectations for cold and snow in lowland parts of the UK.

Maybe 3/10. That sounds generous, but I did see two separate snow coverings (three if you count the very brief one last night), one of which was a complete surprise. They didn't last long, but at least (other than last night's) they simply melted rather than being washed away.

I also had several days of sunny, clear, chilly weather which I'd take in a heartbeat over the dull, drizzly dross served up today. There was never the *slightest* chance of -15C IMBY (even Dec 2010 didn't manage that!) so that aspect is irrelevant.

1.5/10.

Had last winter brought a few cold snaps I would have scored this one lower at 0.5/10.

TBH this winter IMB is turning out to be a lot more boring than 2013/14.

Who said it was coldest in four years?
You only need go back to March 2013 and it was -5C one afternoon here.

Depends what the 1-10 scale we are using means, for example what exactly is a 10/10?

I will plump for 4/10.

Saw nothing last year and I live in a horribly exposed area at sea levels on the west coast of Scotland.

During this spell it has been snowing on several occasions, one fall about 1-2 inches then a small dusting to top it up and then 6 hours of snizzle to add half an inch yesterday. It has been around freezing or below most of the time and the snow has survived for days.

This never was going to be a decent wintry spell away from high ground in the north, so it's hard to score it meaningfully.

The only really remarkable feature of it has been the exasperating amount of hype that has been associated with it.

Anyway, it was the coldest (at night) here for nearly 3 years and the snowiest it has been for nearly 2 years   Although that says rather more about the last 2 winters than this week
