Looks like the GFS stops the really exceptional uppers from reaching us on Wednesday as high pressure is closer by, the weaker low over Biscay doesn't quite give the plume that push we need for record breaking territory (it may be saving it for a later point!)

I think it's a good trade off though as something like this could bring more sustained heat. Looks like the chances of 1 very thundery day are also quite high too. The 20C isotherm now begins to make inroads on Thursday instead.

edit: the unusual synoptics mean even somewhere as far NW Stornaway could see some decent thunderstorms , when was the last time a plume really delivered some big storms for this area? May 2006?

Still high uncertainty over smaller details at this point.

October 31st brought us a whisker from 25C IIRC!  This one is going to be interesting.

If we are still looking down the barrel of that plume for next week come Sunday evening, then things will get very interesting indeed.

Eventually a section of the plume gets cut off by a trough and this would surely go bang in a big way! Originally Posted by: Rob K

Just about to ask that, thanks! Thought it looked like something thundery developing on Sunday. Just imagine the potential bang considering the 5 previous 30C days

Had a good viewing on the 12z runs and really pleased to see it nationwide heat wave that all areas deserved to join the 30's temps after many of us had a very cool start to the summer and cold start in the north.  With uppers up to 22C so 36-38C would be reached at some point and very warm nights.  Also the dryness and lot of parched landscape which is odd how it form well despite a cool start to the summer.  This help to generate higher temps and plus don't see any rain to come for a long while so that helps.  I hope it stay firm as it been for few days now so likely to happen and we well overdue for some serious heat.  This heat wave path run from Spain to UK and Benelux but Germany and other European missed out with very warm temps instead.
