Oh well if some of us like it or not, we cannot stop this heat so let's put the f**ker to bed, smash the records, get it out of the system and move on

A storm passed by us earlier not overhead there was some lightning and the sky was crazy. I snapped a few pics. The pics show the clouds that were forming on the south side of the storm.

Storm pic 2

In the second pic there were a lot of clouds with smooth lines running through them like that but I don't now what its called or what causes it.

I can't see much getting in the way of a new July record today. Not convinced the all time is under threat but the former definitely is.

The caveat is you often see a marked tapering of the rise from around 2pm - not sure why but it's like an oven with a thermostat. Once the programmed temperature is reached it seems to stop there.

Just slipped my shoes off and stepped outside the back, that is one of them burning heats, hope people wear sun lotion at Wimbledon lol, the concrete floor was burning my feet, not felt that in this country for a good while, with that in mind please look after your pets, watch your dogs paws on the paths

That cloud type is Altostratus Undulatus. The layers - I think they look like the layers you get in a mouse made from different types of chocolate - are caused by directional shear and instability. You'll often see it preceeding elevated thundery activity.

Just hit 30 degrees here which is absolutely incredible! Quite gusty but it is hot and offering no cooling effect unlike yesterday.

If all this happened a day earlier we'd only have to beat 36.5 to get a new June record!

Incredible here in Folkestone. The wind has switched SSE'ly directly off the continent (having been ESE'ly earlier). As a result the temperature has responded. 30.2c Dewpoint 17.2c now.

We are now in the core peak of the heatwave..the next 6 hours will be very telling.

Be mindful of what happened on 31st October 2014. Decent Synoptics smashed the day record and was one day off smashing the November record. A new UK all time maximum record is not out of the question, but not nailed on either. 1800 is the likely maxing out time, East of London possibly as the + 20 uppers hang on but it will be all about sunshine wind direction and surface conditions! What a day!!

Have to wonder a bit about that Heathrow figure. Two whole degrees above anywhere else, even Northolt which isn't far away.

Overcast here now and temp has dropped considerably to around 24.5. Disappointing as it was 28.5 at 9am.
Ah well....onto the next heatwave.

Saying that, the breeze is dying down and it's now 32C, albeit not in a perfect location. (exposed to the breeze around the side of the house)
