More cloud arriving in London, which will probably put a lid on the temperatures. I'm going to guess at 34.8C as the final max.

The max UK temperature is currently only 1C under the max France temperature and much higher than expected. France will get 39C if not 40C today, so provided the heating is not interrupted by cloud or moisture, 37C/38C is definitely possible in the UK.

Yes even I am surprised the BBC going for 26C on Saturday when Benelux going for 36-37C with same uppers here of 20C that will pass here on Saturday.  I expect to see around 34-35C here on Saturday until early afternoon before cooling off.

Hmm maybe I was a bit low with 34.8C then! But I can't see it getting that much higher to be honest. Something usually comes up to spoil a new monthly record. Would be nice to see though...

This in theory will leave clear skies at max heating so I'd expect a pause in the rise until then.

Even here on the N Norfolk coast with a stiff onshore breeze an amateur station is reading 27.6.  This is only 3 miles from the coast.  Here right on the coast all I have is a thermometer in the shade which is saying 27!!  Never would have thought it!!!
