Phew and what a way to finish the month off. The CET for July 1st was 24.5C and we're looking at finishing the month off no less than 13C or 14C degrees colder than the beginning.

That has to be a record difference in one month by a long way.

If this was repeated in Winter we would be looking at CETS ganging from 10th more at the beginning and about -6C at the end. :-O

It turns out that for July data, 1948 has the record being 25.2 on 29th and 11.4 on 9th giving a difference of 13.8C. More recently 2001 had 23.0 on 29th and 12.7 on 15th giving 10.3

It seems the summer months JJA are the least variable in this measurement having no entries in differences of 14C or more out of a total for all months of 99 entries

The all time record for any month is Jan 1867 with a range of 19.4C being -9.3C on 4th and 10.1 on 27th. More recently November 2010 has 17.6C being 13.6 on 4th & 5th and -4.0 on 28th in the run up to the record cold December 2010

Anyone seen the film "On the Waterfront"? I can almost see this July after it is over sitting back and quoting Marlon Brando's famous lines

Down to 14.2C here now, which is -0.8C

2011 and 2012 were colder though, at 13.7 and 13.8

Its incredible how the cet has fallen off a cliff this month. The past week has been more like October than July and am beginning to wonder if the summer of 2015 has already ended,it feels like summer lasted a month at best

Today, this morning the wind chill has felt very cold indeed

Its going to take something spectacular now to rescue what is turning out to be one of the most disappointing summers I can remember.

June wasn't great by any means, but this month is turning into an abomination. Only had one dry day that I can remember here in the past fortnight, which was last Tuesday. Has almost felt like the disaster that was 2012 all over again.

Coldest CET return of the month so far today at 12.95C by my calculations which is 4.5C below average.

The CET is expected to be 4.5C below average for the next two days as well.

Final CET still expected to come in at 15.99C.

Were it not for the fact that Deep Powder is taking a big penalty for a late prediction he would be leading the CET competition by a large margin at the end of this month. Despite the penalty he should still climb from 14th to 2nd place. A huge move. There will be lots of other changes in the top 10 this month.

I knew when I put my figure in we would not keep the heat - but no way could I forsee that July would turn into such a dreadful month this past 2 weeks.

No way.

Thankfully, the thunder we had that night freshened the air up somewhat., and by the end of the following weekend the temperatures here had returned to similar values to what we had for much of June.

Since and including December last year, every month has been at least 1.0C cooler than its predecessor.

That's 8 months on the trot, that is some stats quirk. The odds are against happening for August........

Final official July CET from Hadley is 15.91C

So everyone was too high in the CET competition although lanky was the closest with 16.00C (along with Deep Powder although he gets less credit as his prediction was posted late after the initial heatwave started to abate).
