This made me wonder what the maximum range is when comparing the highest CET (mean) and lowest CET on a daily basis for any particular month. If we got a CET of 12C for instance at the end of this month, then the difference would be the 24.5C on the 1st July compared to (say) 12C this week giving a difference of 12.5C
It turns out that for July data, 1948 has the record being 25.2 on 29th and 11.4 on 9th giving a difference of 13.8C. More recently 2001 had 23.0 on 29th and 12.7 on 15th giving 10.3
It seems the summer months JJA are the least variable in this measurement having no entries in differences of 14C or more out of a total for all months of 99 entries
The all time record for any month is Jan 1867 with a range of 19.4C being -9.3C on 4th and 10.1 on 27th. More recently November 2010 has 17.6C being 13.6 on 4th & 5th and -4.0 on 28th in the run up to the record cold December 2010
