Just hope there aren't that many Met Office forecasters working for the BBC but I know what it is like to have been laid off from what I thought was the most secure job there is.

btw it is still possible the MetO may retain the contract.   If they are cheaper than PC and the man with the piece of seaweed .....

The point is that the BBC have been forced to put the job out to tender and to accept the cheapest viable offer, rather than automatically go with the MetO.   Else they will be accused of not providing best value to the licence payers.

Exactly so. Beware erroneous speculation & false assumptions. It's falling thick and fast at a rate of 32mm/hr across *all* weather forums today. That's all I can say on the matter.

I agree.  May be more being made of this than is necessarily the case.

I think the story is simply that it is being put out to tender and therefore the MetO are not guaranteed the contract, as they, presumably, have until now.   And there may be pressure on the BBC to accept a cheaper "better value" proposal.

Could it be that the quality of the broadcasts is determined by the broadcaster, not necessarily the data provider?

Anyway back OT, would like to see an American equivalent weather channel for us. In the few times have visited the U.S., I have this programme on all the time when in the room there.

I think we did have a 24 hr channel on Cable TV in the late 90s  but it didnt last long. I think Carol Kirkwood was a presenter. So too was Jo Price and a few others who went onto the BBC

Yes but rightly or wrongly the general public has faith in the BBC  forecasts supplied by the Met Office. The BBC forecasts supplied by  Metcheck does not have the same ring to it.  ThumbDown
