Torrential rain again rr/hr 137.2mm 38.0mm today


Edit: conditions are such that I expect flooding in Caterham valley.


up to 46.4mm now and rain seems to be stuck overhead.

There's an absolute monster just out to the east from here - oddly if I look to the east the cloud is moving left to right, but if I look to the south it's also moving left to right. To the north it doesn't seem to be moving at all.


I'm guessing that's not good news if you were underneath it!

I believe Tunbridge Wells is getting a little wet at the moment looking out of the window. Couple of rumbles as well. Cloud rotating right over us at the moment.

I don't know exactly how much we have had but I'd say it's between 2-3 inches. Most of this fell between 8am-3pm in numerous slow moving bands.

Local parks have been transformed into swamps..

 Tesco survives narrowly but many local shops and properties flooded. I suspect if there was a nuclear holocaust, Tesco would still be open

It has been a wet/damp and depressingly grey day here and I am not liking the look of that precipitation spiralling round on this direction in the North Sea.

Officially speeking Thorney is in the running for the wettest spot between 6am-6pm with 40mm falling. St Cathrines point in second with 38mm in the same time frame.

The 24hr total from 6pm to 6pm saw 46mm at Thorney.

Personally I think more fell locally over the southsea area today as those showers came directly off the sea, however this only 'Official' observations above regarding Thorney.

Rain gauge at home was showing 35mm for last 24 hour period earlier so it's certainly been wet. 


Be interesting to see what the weekly total ends up on!

What surprises me is how little rain has fallen elsewhere in the southeast -

Heathrow 12mm

St James Park 16mm

Shoreham 12mm

South Farnborough 17mm

Odiham 15mm

Manston 23mm

Interesting that we've had a similar unusual variation in rainfall within a short distance today.  6mm of rain found in my rain gauge from a downpour early evening, but yet just 2 miles to the north of here, no rain fell at all today !

Herstmonceux has only picked up 13mm today & Shoreham 12mm - Eastbourne sandwiched between the 2 see's double it's neighbours. A very strange day weather wise.
