Also note cell near CIs now could affect IOW area from 1am.

http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=lightning;sess= nearest lightning is off the coast and nr Brighton. If the band of heaviest precipitation were to straighten up and move north wards we could see some strikes further West . Not likely though as the band moves N.E wards.

Moderate rain with lightning every min or so xx not seen any forks yet. Flashes still to the south of here

The distant flashing has started up again, but this time to my south west and has the appearing of heading my way. Not sure if it is something starting up or it's just a "splinter cell" that had strayed loose from the main event still occurring over the Channel. It is also dry but I suspect it won't be staying that way for much longer.

EDIT: It's just started raining.

Thunder here and saw a distant flash earlier from the Estuary direction.

It is going some at this end with frequent strobe sheet lightning over the Channel with some overhead forks, also raining quite heavy. If that Strait of Dover cell is just 20 miles north, it would be quite breathtaking.

Don't think the thunder thing is quite done with us here at Kent as I've just seen a couple of flashes. Not very much rain has fallen, though, considering with 4.2 mm since my last station reset at 11 pm last night.

1. There's been quite a few rumbles in the last hour or so, now clearing east.
2. Was also a fantastic strobe lightning show to the south east yesterday evening. I live 20 miles inland and still saw the show, so those France/channel storms must have been pretty chunky! It was probably c. 100 flashes per minute at its peak.
3. A storm also rolled through here around11.30pm - 12.30am with some house rattling rumbles and torrential rain.

We don't have to get one or three fine days for a thunderstorm Jiries, it's a lot more complex than that.
There are no rules as to what we get and as you can see, high temps nearby can influence what we have here still. One of the many factors needed is timing, bringing ingredients together at the right time, which in fact goes for a number of other types of weather also.

Here in Brussels and a storm is skirting the city but not producing a great deal. Typical really as they tend to get some good storms whenever I am back in England.

Hot and humid for last three days, but dramatically cooler now.
