Wasn't he sacked when his first spell at Stamford Bridge ended? Or was it that much trotted out line nowadays of "left by mutual consent"? Either way I'm pretty certain he didn't resign.

I can't help but feel that the incident in their first PL game of the season with the then club doctor has destabalised the Chelsea team and the club as a whole, at least to some extent. It is bad enough when an incident such as that occurs away from the cameras, but to have the whole thing played out in front of the world couldn't have done anything for morale at the club.

I only wonder if more has happened behind the scenes at Chelsea since then than we have been told about.

And so the mediocrity that has become Man U's trademark continues..........................

He must have gone by mutual consent then. I seem to recall their being rumours in the press at the time that relations between Mourinho and Abramovich had become strained which led to the "Special One" leaving. Whether or not there was any truth in that though, I have no idea.

FWIW, I think the only thing that could force JM out of the Chelsea hot seat anytime in the near future is if they don't reach the knockout stages of the Champions League. Off the top of my head I can't remember how they are placed in their group at the moment, but were they to fail to make the last 16, it might force Abramovich's hand if there is no improvement in their PL form between now and mid-December.

I don't like Maureen & can't believe I'm saying this, but talk of him getting the boot is ridiculous. He came back to a stuttering Chavski and, the following season delivered the title. Every team will have spells of patchy form and this plastic club is no different. But, it seems that, due to the distorted position created by the Russian crook, their Johnny-come-lately fans have developed levels of expectation far beyond their traditional place within footballing circles. Maureen inherited a pretty unbalanced squad, successfully applied a sticking plaster to win the title (minimal net outlay), now must rebuild the squad somewhat. Give him the time.

Sunderland  Down from 2-0 to 2-2, then implode to lose 6-2. Big Sam will do very well to keep that team up.

I'm sure the vast majority of Chelsea fans will be more than willing to give Mourinho time, especially in view of the success he has brought to the club both last season and in his original tenure. Whether or not Abramovich will do that remains to be seen. He seemed to be almost "trigger happy" when it came to hiring and firing managers in the years between when Mourinho's first spell as boss ended in 2007 and when he returned a couple of years ago. IIRC, Ancelotti won the PL title with Chelsea in 2010 but that wasn't enough to save him from the chop after a (by comparison) disappointing season the following year.

Apart from Wenger , Fergie etc the average life of a PL Manager is 15 months so I tend to agree with you , it wouldn't be of benefit to the League to lose JM .
