Time is running out for it to fall to my 10.3c guess.  I'm not surprised it's on its way up again as it's been quite mild here for the past 48 hours, although the temp has dropped a bit tonight.  My guess maybe a little too low for October and goodness knows what November will bring if the current outlook is to be believed.  I think it may catch some of us out.  Ahh, the good old British weather.

GW, could you please post some past CET averages for November to help with my guess, otherwise I'm likely to go for something totally tropical.

My calculations suggest that October will finish around 10.8C.

With November potentially looking very mild - at least for the first half, those looking for a cold winter might be hoping for a repeat of either 1928 or 1822. The CET for both these years is tracking 2015 quite closely since July.

Conversely a repeat of 1994 would be what those looking for a mild winter will hope for.

Surely the CET will inch up a degree.

I wonder when the last time that at least 4 months in the year ended with a whole number?

Annual CET competition October update

Here are the tables for October. lanky still has a good lead but it has been cut somewhat by John S2.

Very tight in the rest of the top 10 with a number of people reaching their highest position of the year this month.

Interestingly, if someone had simply gone for the 1961-90 CET average every month, they would have a cumulative anomaly of 4.9C, and would be leading the table.

Amazed I'm up to 6th....

My laptop died on 29th October and I was in Lanzarote from 31st until yesterday so unfortunately couldn't enter a November guess.

Looking forward to next year's comp...good luck to those left in. Got a hunch it will turn a lot colder late Nov....
