Dry here in Livingston, West Lothian, with the temperature close to freezing. It was clear earlier in the evening, with a hazy Moon, but it's clouding over now. We're always marginal for snow from the north here, as it has to travel over the highlands first, but it has been known to happen, especially when there's a slight easterly component, as is the case now.

Huh... with a temperature of 2*C and a dew point already down to 0*C, I'm suddenly a lot more interested in a moderate shower racing in from the northwest.

I didn't expect conditions to be so favourable for wintry precipitation at this stage in the night.

Snake Pass is closed. Can imagine it got very slippy when that snow was coming down earlier. Some snow still on grass and car roof here. Wonder what later on will bring.

Snow here in Birmingham now, back home in Stoke the shower passed over dumping a CM or two, pretty impressive given it was raining earlier and the fact temps this time of night earlier in the week were around 13C. When weather switches like this so quickly it always amazes me.

Some impressive wind gusts out there now and a bit of soft hail clattering down. If only there was more than a glimmer of light to see by - there are few street lights about here in rural England!

Edit: a mixture of rain and some small wet snow flakes was observed using a bike light, had to stare out for a good minute or two to be sure I wasn't imagining things!

Later in the night, a wedge of air with slightly higher dewpoints is likely to cause rain to be the main precipitation type for a time as the more organised precipitation crosses from the north, but the back edge may bring a bit of snow which if any luck will occur after dawn and therefore be clearly observable. Seeing snow falling in mid-November will be good fun despite the lack of accumulations.

Had a brief sleety shower on the way home from work at 22:30 and there was a few decent sized flakes in the mix to boot.

What a night!

Just woke up and the scene outside is remarkable with heavy snow falling and at least 3cms lying covering 100% of surfaces! the temperature is 0.3c and wind moderate northerly.

Hopefully being this side of the Pennines will be beneficial away from the warming influence of the North Sea, I reckon about 30minutes of precipitation left and it's still all snow so maybe I will escape a thaw?

We will see.

Wonder if the next band will be rain or snow round the Midlands. All the snow from earlier has melted which is a shame.
