Did someone say gloating thread?..maxed at 26C here today, with wall to wall sunshine, and light easterly winds (has been since at least Tuesday too) .

Sadly, summer will be over from tomorrow, as the cloud increases and the temp gets pegged back to around24C

PS - Here being Lanzarote

Mild and drizzly at 12c here and couldn't be worse even if it tried to be! Just rotten. Where is Richard in Aberdeen? He likes to moan?

I absolutely sick of this endless wind and rain - hope we change to something seasonal - cold sun and frost soon

A very nasty period of weather in these area and some parts (Cumbria) may be about to have serious flooding issues.

Forecast for here has been cocked up . It was meant to be cloudy....apart from a little high cloud, it's sunshine al the way. Expecting another mild one, at around 24/25C again. Sigh!

Dry for a change but windy, so hubby had fun barrowing the load of logs but I was OK stacking them in the store.

Surprised this thread dropped of the first page.

2 weeks till the shortest day, noticed yesterday how it got dark so quick after a gloomy but mild day, was about 3.40pm. Looks like we will get into Single figures towards the end of the week.

I could see daffodils protruding out from flower bed at my parents house in N. Devon and it's early December and it's in the wrong year let alone season - but days and nights of +13, 14c or 15c doesn't surprise me to be frank but it's so unseasonal.

The trouble with mild weather is it's generally accompanied by cloud.  It's getting a bit boring now and making the days even shorter than they could be.  It was very dark this morning.  I went out half an hour later than usual and it was darker than usual.  I'd like some bright, crisp mornings.

Repulsive start to winter. Yet another soul destroying day of ultra depressing gloom and drizzle. Raining day in day out with no frost and very little sunshine. Two horrific nights of vile winds rattling away, in the past week, that kept me awake and it's started up again now with rain lashing against the window and a ridiculous temp of 10.4C. Feel tired all the time and just want to hibernate. The dross is just relentless. There's just nothing remotely acceptable in the outlook. Every single day looks full of the same crap

Worst start to a winter since 2002 here and in light of the horrifying events in Cumbria must rate as the worst start ever for the UK as a whole. Utterly repellent and that's now three years out of four that people have been flooded out just before Christmas somewhere in the UK

Another pissh poor start to winter for the worlds worst climate consisting of one season, eternal Autumn. I'll give it until the first half January if we've still not seen any cold spell materialise by then, then I'll throw in the towel as back ended winters don't float my boat at all.

As I have said before, I have never heard anyone say "at least it is cold" but, when wet, I have often heard them say "at least it isnt snowing".

Obviously rain of the like Cumbria has seen of late is not welcome by anyone.

But most people will be glad of the mild weather, and happy not to see any ice all winter.

That said, it is an interesting fact that more people die in mild winters than very cold winters - (in part) because in the later, vulnerable people know it is cold and react accordingly.

On a personal note, I have sufferred bad sleep of late due to the very warm nights ......

Since December 2010 we have had ONE proper snowfall, in January 2013 (by my definition a snowfall is more than 1 inch of lying snow). Don't think we had this bad a run even in the dark days of the 90s. I know it's early this winter looking at all the signs, El Nino etc, I'm not optimistic it will buck the trend. Hope I'm wrong.

Feel there is going to be a crash at some point but I bet it will come when nobody wants it eg. mid Feb 98 and the wintry crash of mid Apr 98.

There was no crash with winter 2013-14 as such but there was no really exceptionally mild spell that winter. That was persistent mildness and averageness with virtually no cold.
