If I didn't have a calendar and the sun were a little higher I'd swear it was April.

16.1c outside almost tropical and it's not even raining! Warmest December day I have ever experienced.
Overcast and dull though. - So unseasonal.

I think Spring has sprung today and I've actually enjoyed it because the sun has shone for the first time in ages and apart from a stiff breeze this morning, it's been calm and very mild.  It's still 11.3c and it's 9.30pm.  I wouldn't mind mild so much if it were always like this and not grey, damp and foggy like the past few weeks.

Another day of rain, wind and dark grey gloomy skies. Just want some sun, pleasee. It's been about 6 weeks of this exact same weather every single day and there's no end in sight. I'd love for even some dynamic polar maritime weather which has been almost non-existent.

As an aside, both this day in 2009 and 2010 started with snow on the ground in Alton.

Easterlies brought snow overnight in 2009.

In 2010, a feature moving along the Channel brought 7cm of snow just after dawn. This caused chaos at London's airports during the day.

Tell you the one advantage of this mild spell = reduced condensation indoors.

Whenever it does get properly cold, I crank up the heating and then there is terrible condensation on prone corners of walls and windows due to "cold bridging". The only way to combat it is to keep the heating down, allow a couple of windows and wall vents open to let the air circulate indoors, that then makes it feel more draughty indoors and a waste on heating costs through heat loss. Or invest in a dehumidifier.
My house doesn't suffer with rising damp but does have lots of "cold pockets" where condensation forms and have to be careful that mould doesn't take a hold.

This year had new wall cavity fillings of polystyrene balls.   That has helped keep damp away. Also TWO new vents going from lounge and bathroom in the bungalow directly through the roof.   We live on a  hill crest and no sun is seen at the rear during winter facing north.

Still a lot of greyness around and still very mild.  I'd just like it to snow for a couple of days at Christmas and I don't think that's too much to ask of the weather gods.

I keep getting a bad feeling that this current exceptional mild spell is going to cost us with a kick in the nuts in the next few months.

A cold wintry Easter? A bad May? A really poor summer month?

A cold and snowy Easter wouldn't surprise me though as for the first time in my life I'll be out of the country at the time!

I can only imagine the uproar on here if we were to get a June, for example, which was 4C below normal! Sadly for me, that's pretty much impossible - we can get really mild months in winter, no problem, but really cold months in summer... forget it.

The repulsive, soul-destroying gloom and doom rolls on and on with day after day of the same depressing coma-inducing dross

Temperature fell no lower than 10.8C which is just vile and the highest min since 28th October. 1.8 hours of sun since Monday with every day seeing daytime darkness at some point. It is absolutely horrific

With only two frosts and all the gloom this has to be the worst start to winter I can remember along with 1997. 1988 and 1994 were far milder but much more pleasant being dry and bright with winds more from the SW than the S and even the 2002 horror show had a frosty spell by now.

Given up looking for a change from this filth. Seems impossible to get normal changeable, varied weather anymore

Nice one Rich!"

Seems to be mild in N, America most of Europe too. But this is horrible - yet another day of mild and wet weather but this time it's almost +16c instead of 13c, 14c or 15c. Utterly disgusting outside! - Couldn't get worse even if it tried. This is December and we have not had one frosty day - I think the coldest night was around 8c back on 2nd or 3rd December but even that was mild for night time. That's an average day time. It should be around 7c here. Temperatures have been almost 10c above normal. Just so erratic and unseasonal.
