Yet another day of exceptional mild, dark, gloomy grey skies and pouring rain. Have had the lights on since 1pm. Just 4 hours of sun this month. There has been 16 sunless days.

This followed the mildest December on record in 1934, May 1935 and we know what famously followed the mildest December on record of 1974.

You didn't mention the unusual combination of a very warm Nov and some records in Dec in the same year- 1994 of course. August 1995 is top of the pops.

The repulsive, soul-destroying gloom and doom rolls on and on with day after day of the same depressing coma-inducing dross

Temperature fell no lower than 10.8C which is just vile and the highest min since 28th October. 1.8 hours of sun since Monday with every day seeing daytime darkness at some point. It is absolutely horrific

With only two frosts and all the gloom this has to be the worst start to winter I can remember along with 1997. 1988 and 1994 were far milder but much more pleasant being dry and bright with winds more from the SW than the S and even the 2002 horror show had a frosty spell by now.

Given up looking for a change from this filth. Seems impossible to get normal changeable, varied weather anymore

I've a got that awful feeling that this winter like the last few around here is going to be one of chasing shadows in the outer reaches of FI, with winter finally showing its hand come March-May, and if that wasn't bad enough a thoroughly depressing summer to follow due the strong Nina expected. Maybe we should write off 2016 now.

Nice to see that there is now at least one place in the UK below freezing...even if it is Cairngorm!

It's funny, but I was out a few minutes ago and I though that it felt quite cool, and the temperature was 8°C. Methinks we have been spoiled recently and any "normal" weather will feel rather chilly.

I had the fun of turning off the central heating completely yesterday as well as a spot of afternoon gardening.

I am now totally convinced that the +384 on GFS is an antagonistic intelligent  life-form that sadistically preys on hope. I get at that range it would be reckoned to be inaccurate- random even; however...

I wish someone would do a stat analysis on the number of times 384 looks promising, then the promising bit goes to 384 for the next couple of days before disappearing again. Nothing random about that; behind the veil of good synoptics slithers a vicious, venomous viperine.

Holy Mary mother of God, the sun has come out here. First time in about 2 weeks. I'd forgotten what that strange firey ball in the sky was.

Next sighting sometime next year June I imagine.

Just when the hell is this ridiculously unpleasant, unnatural, abnormal, excruciatingly boring **** going to end?

Not gone below 8C for 4 days which is just incredulous. Even more ridiculous than the hideous mild spell in December 2013. The vile, nasty wind is back again and rattling away with temperature stuck on 8.7C and varied less than a degree all day. A temperature profile that used to occur only under the grimmest of easterlies but is pretty much the norm now no matter what

This utterly vile month just shows that there are no boundaries as to how low the weather can sink in this country.  Every single day apart from last Sunday I would score 0/10. Torturous, monotonous and unpleasant in the extreme

It feels quite cold outside but I'm not acclimatised to temps as low as the current 6.7c.

Awful for sleeping last night.  The wind was playing havoc with the open bedroom window but it was too warm to close it.  Doors blowing open, blinds rattling.  So I got up just after 4am, put the bedding in the washer and had it out on the line and dry before it got light!

I's so glad it's cooler tonight because I need some sleep otherwise I'll need to see Richard's therapist.
