The only sunshine I have seen since returning from Lanzarote on the 15th November was a lovely day in Aberdeen on December 10th, with shelter from the mountains Aberdeen has been less dull than many other places although I take your point it's still crap.

Words fail me to describe the last two months weather in Cumbria, the floods have been biblical but it's been the constant darkness that is so depressing, it's like living on the set of Blade Runner!

If this is a sign of our new climate due to GW I am considering buying myself an apartment in Lanzarote when I retire to get away from it, I suspect I will need a spare room.

Loving your rants but you're expected to wake up to clear skies with a high of +4 or 5c on Xmas day and may get a frost yet southern part's haven't even woken up to one frosty morning this December...NOT one!!

Sleet has fallen this evening with the temperature 4c, does that count as a white Christmas Lol.

There are some right goons and kiddies who crop up on netweather. Someone has opened up a summer 2016 thread and has already written it off.

I double checked the calendar, it is still Christmas Eve and not April Fool's Eve.

Ahh, nobody moaning about the weather over the Christmas period.  How refreshing!

At least the kids got out to ride their bikes and play with their remote controlled cars etc on Christmas Day and they didn't need to wear hats and gloves, or even coats for that matter!

Overcast and dull but a shift in temperature - it's 15c instead of 14.5c. - Miserable! Feels mild outside even in the wind.

Absolutely revolting Boxing Day. Worst day I can ever recall over the Festive Period. Just vile with incessant rain the whole day adding up to over an inch

Today was much better with sunshine and light winds but did it lead to a frost as expected at this time of year? Like hell it did. Temperature rising rapidly now - up to a mild 4.4C -as a precursor to yet another week of rancid dross coming up. More wash out conditions and minima as high as 10C. Nothing remotely normal or seasonable

4th awful Festive period with little or no frost, never mind snow, in 5 years. It's just beyond a joke. It is almost impossible to put into words how dire this is for winter. In my records back to 2005 the fewest number of frosts recorded up to New Year was eight in 2011. The average has been 14.8 and that will obviously be much lower than the longer term average which will be closer to 20. This year a total of two. The same as during the month of May.

Something very wrong when it has become virtually impossible to record something as mundane as a frost at this time of year. Even with sub-5C maxima and snow on the ground it can't be achieved

Can't fathom out how it can be simultaneously windy and foggy. A truly vile day. Will be stuck indoors all day and same on Wednesday. Just when will it end

MET OFFICE UDPATED:

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Friday 1 Jan 2016 to Sunday 10 Jan 2016:

A cold and locally frosty start to New Year's Day with sunny spells and largely dry weather for many. However, there could be a few showers in the north and west, where it will be quite breezy with a risk of hill snow. A cold, dry and bright start to the weekend in the southeast but with a return to wet, mild and windy conditions across the north and west. The wet and mild weather may spread south on Sunday. The rest of the period looks like seeing mostly westerly winds with showers or longer spells of rain, particularly across the north and west. Temperatures around average to above average with any frost or hill snow largely restricted to the north.

UK Outlook for Monday 11 Jan 2016 to Monday 25 Jan 2016:

The middle part of January is expected to remain rather unsettled and windy at times, with mainly westerly winds. The wettest and windiest weather is likely to occur in the north and west where rainfall is likely to be above average. Further south and east, however, it may well be slightly drier than average. Temperatures should be close to or above average, so continuing with the largely mild conditions, and confining any snowfall to the north. There is a chance of one or two frosty nights but the chances of any prolonged cold spell remain low.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a chance of one or two frosty nights IN January? Is this really the best winter can offer!?

Mild and windy nights do nothing for a good night's sleep as far as I'm concerned because I like the bedroom cool with plenty of fresh air.  I never have the bedroom heating on and I sleep with the window open even on frosty nights, so I can snuggle under the duvet and when it's mild I have the window wide open.

When it's windy, it's a different matter.  With the window open, the blinds blow and rattle, the bathroom door blows open, the bedroom door blows open, then blows shut again, then open, then shut ......  arghhhh!  I have to close the window otherwise I'm awake closing doors all night, but then I'm awake because it's too warm!   Bloomin' mild and windy weather!!!!!
