Meteorologists must be the most hated people in the UK this winter, always forecasting horrible destructive weather, endless rain and gloom. Even I feel annoyed by them, even though they don't control it and simply forecast what is showing. If I was going to become a weather forecast I'd move to a country with a nicer climate personally.

I know BBC forecasters especially - the so called catch phase you could dream it now "Heavy Rain sweeps away eastwards to allow another depending area of low pressure to arrive on our doorsteps over already saturated ground, which will be heavier and more persistent, but we are not out of the woods yet because out in the Atlantic we have storm ***** waiting in it's wings to give us yet ANOTHER deluge - this will bring more wind, rain and a risk to localised flooding!" . - If you want to keep up to date visit our website and stay tuned to our forecast. I shall be back in half an hours time.

Do you think i should stop watching the weather now? - I use to enjoy watching the weather forecasts!

Rain has just started and it's 12c again!

Just to make us feel better - it's going to be yet another dire week:

At least Scotland will see average temperatures and some drier weather.

Oh well, this forecasting lark keeps me occupied anyway. I guess it's in my blood, a bit like someone pledging allegiance to their favourite football club no matter what, even if they keep losing.

Yet another revoltingly mild overnight min 5C above average which has led to another dismal dark and depressing Saturday. 3rd sunless day out of four, including yesterday which the hopeless forecasters said would be sunny. 3rd sunless Saturday out of 5 with the other two managing 0.5 hours and 0.3 hours.

This winter is a miserable depressing joke. Wish I could hibernate till March. Haven't the energy to get out of bed as it's so dark it feels as though it's still 7am. This month is just going to be an even worse version of January 2014 just like December was a worse version of December 2013. I really wish I could leave this nasty, unpleasant and unhealthy island for good. It's rotten climate is just getting worse and worse with the lack of any good spells to counter the dross making it totally intolerable and insufferable

Another repulsive day yet again 13c with drizzle - tomorrow will be better 11c with heavy rain and strong winds (NOT).

One question again!? - How come there isn't more significant snow and to lower levels in Scotland? It is an easterly/ South easterly wind after all!?

Another god awful day under a non moving rainband.

From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.

I was used to having soggy sandals by mid November.

By the end of that month wet socks were a norm.

Well before Christmas I splashed in lawn puddles.

Then just last week I sank in the lawn.

But today on the pavestones

Avoiding the grass

And treading most stoutly...

I slipped on my Ah but that's just typical of this soggy winter.

The simple fact is that for the most part Britain has a very benign climate compared with a great many other countries.

Which is why many of us dont like it - we want extremes.   But most people, sensibly, do not .....   I have yet to hear anyone in the street bemoan the lack of cold and snow.   As I have said before, even when we have incessant rain and floods the usual comment is "well at least it is not snowing".

Zonality getting locked in for January according to the latest models and that easterly talked about a few days ago is was just a ghost.

My own feeling is that January will continue wet and stormy with temperatures near or above average before much drier weather takes over in February as the storms abate and the AH pushes north, still mild with an early spring.

Very similar in many ways to 1993 which had a stormy January followed by a mild dry February although an easterly did set in at the months end.

Similarly I would imagine any cold spell to occur late February or early March.

My own feeling is that the rest of this winter is relatively easy to forecast due to so manny similar years.

Aberdeen's stats so far: 43% of January's mean rainfall, 0% of its mean sunshine.

Doctormog!? - Some very mild weather for Yellowknife too - average there should be around -26c right!??

Currently at -7c now and it's the early hours. - almost some 20c above average. Temperatures look set to tumble once again but still remain above.

As far as I'm concerned the only parts of the Western world that have a more revolting climate are Ireland, Iceland, coastal Norway, Alaska and coastal parts of Canada. None of those places have the concentration of population that the UK has.
