East Wind 7c - approaching 40mm rainfall since 0900hrs yesterday. 29mm since midnight.

As these extraordinary rainfall totals tot up , I am astonished none of the National Press dare mention the potential weather patterns beyond a 2-3 days timeframe. It is as if it is a given that this awful weather will continue unabated for weeks on end with the dreaded zonal flow completely stuck in a rut as it has been for weeks on end now. Looking at the charts posted on the forum and today's Saturday Times chart in the weather section ,I wouldn't be a bit surprised that the continuous conveyor belt of rain and really mild temperatures continue right up to the end of January .I really feel for those poor people who have had dreadful flooding since the beginning of December with little hope of a pattern change anytime soon.

Talk down in Machynlleth is that parts of NW Wales are to all intents and purposes cut off - and it is throwing it down over Snowdonia.

Good grief, I am so sorry for those poor people in the flooded areas, and just looking at the latest radar there is more to come.
When can we please have some HP and sunshine?

I just can't imagine how life-affecting floods like this are, never mind that it's Christmas, too. Just awful

My sympathies are with all those people in Lancashire & Yorkshire (and probably Cumbria) who have been affected by this awful flooding. I only hope that no-one from this forum has been affected.

Weather, please change and be quick about it!

It's been wet and where it hasn't flooded from the river it's flooded from run off from the high ground. No escape.

Probably totally flooded by now. That entire area of town is underwater. This is Wellington Street, about 300 metres from the River Aire.

The Aire in Leeds still rising - quite comfortably above its previous record. Station open since 1972.

York now has a Severe Flood Warning.

Specifically it has 6 of them. Only the west side of the city is not under one, and given how big there flood areas are this is going to be potentially Hull flood levels.

The flooding in Leeds on Twitter is staggering, its flooding anywhere and everywhere thats low lying, would never have thought it was possible for ASDA house area to be under multiple feet of water.

People close to the Irwell in Salford are being evacuated.

I can't recall flooding on this scale affecting such a large area for this region. It's towns, villages, even cities.

EDIT: confirmation that the Foss Barrier has failed, so no water can be pumped out of the Foss into the Ouse, hence the water being backed up into the Foss. Even during the worse floods in the last 200 years in 2000, the Foss did not flood due to the Foss Barrier still working.
