Big upgrade for a snow event for eastern areas and the SE but IMBY it looks like we could be in a rain/sleet mix during the week, that would be unbearable after waiting 5 years for lying snow.

Clip from The Shining, love it!

Remember going to see the Shining on 21st February 1981 and anyone who as seen it will know it's the huge snowfall covering the hotel that makes the film so erie. When I left the cinema in Birmingham after watching the film I was greeted by a landscape straight out the film as the City was being swept by a huge snowstorm!

I will never forget walking home (the buses had stopped because of the snow) through silent streets blinded by the drifting, swirling snow waiting for Jack Nicholson to jump out of a snow covered bush wielding his axe!

It was a great snowfall and 25cms lay by the following morning.

Thanks to my new digital hearing aids, I can clearly hear the gale force southerly wind "humming" over my house - for the 536th time so far this season. This may seem trivial when compared to those who suffered properly in the recent flooding but I'm bored of this now. I should expect the occasional blustery spells at this time of the year but I'm sure our winters are getting more windier lately.

Yuck, it is pouring with rain here once again with the flow off the North Sea. The last thing we need after the last few days. Rainfall totals this month have been ridiculous and this comes on the back of the flooding at the end of December.

I was watching the review of Britain's weather events in 2015 a few minutes ago and it reminded me that as well as the recent horrific flooding parts of Aberdeen were under water on three separate occasions over the summer too.

Just watched my next door's garden wooden fence next to my back yard snap clean in two and is banging about in the wind with the wooden posts slowly working themselves off the ground. They've only put it up two years ago but to be honest I'm surprised it lasted out this long what with them being taller than me given our exposed location.

Indeed, the situation at your end does make mine seem very trivial in comparison, but even so it's getting a bit boring now. Snow or not, I just want to fast forward onto Spring proper so that I can start moaning about BBQs and kids running amok later in the evenings.  

Mind you, we even do experience gales in the Summer months, but only every other week rather than two or three times a week.

At the risk of being contrary (perish the thought ), I love the wind. The only thing better than a gale force wind blowing at your bedroom window when you go to bed is a gale force wind blowing rain horizontally at your window when you go to bed.

Looking at the precipitation charts for Thursday it shows heavy snow to the north of IMBY, snow to the east and snow all the way to the coast in Wales. Now in between those areas lies a little spot with a mild sector producing rain, can anyone guess where that is.

Continuing beyond credulity with yet another day of diabolical filthy grey wet crap 


Already more hours of rain in this rancid month than in any other in my 11 years of records except December 2012. It's just a living hell. Never endured such a forced period of inactivity in all my life and am in danger of developing pressure sores. All the quality of life of being in a persistent vegetative state
