I see on the Current Conditions thread that some have had temps fall to 0c (in England), whilst in the Scottish wastelands -1.3c was posted.

The min IMBY last night was 0.8c (second coldest of the 'winter', after it dropped to a smidgeon under 0c one freak night late Nov/early Dec....IIRC)

Given night-time temps at least should dip at times, let's have your mins and lowest maxes for this possible cold spell.

Well an overnight low of -1c and a high of 3c here at least leant the day a veneer of winter.

Good to see the temps forecast by the BBC for this week are warmer than today.

Reached 2.2c here today.
It would be depressing if the temporary slush we got yesterday before the cold spell officially started was the only snowfall this week.

It would be bloody typical if the temporary slush we got yesterday before the cold spell officially started was the only snowfall this week.

I think personally its going to have to get a lot colder here in the south east. I had a frost on Friday but thats it really this winter. Whatever we get falling on a wet and warm ground right now is not gonna last!

It's amazing the amount of over hype there has been of this current "cold spell", even by the Met Office who should know better. (Showing pictures of early flowering daffodils smothered in snow). Truth is it's just bog standard January fayre and wouldn't even be worth discussing if the preceding six weeks hadn't been so exceptional in terms of temps. and rainfall.

Imby it was the first time this winter the mercury has gone below 5c with an overnight minimum of 4.8c.

Its currently around 7c and feels absolutely freezing in a blustery nw wind

Normal temperatures for January but we have been so acclimatised by endless 10c+ temperatures this week is going to be a real shock.Im still not confident there will be a frost down here though, maybe a few miles inland will see one or two.

Looks like my neck of the woods will get its first frost at the weekend. Unless winter peps up this will go down as on a par temperature wise to 2013-14.

Cold spell? What cold spell, where is it

Its been 9.3c imby today and with light winds and sunshine its felt like a spring day, quite pleasant after an overnight min of 2.8c.

Wasn`t the forcast a few days ago for last night to see -5c in the midlands, -7c in the borders and -10c in Scotland.

This `cold spell` seems to have been exaggerated and looks like being slightly below average, temperature wise, until next week.

I think that tonight, if things stay clear in some more northern parts, could be a very chilly one and some of the next few nights look like being the coldest for a perhaps 3 years?
