10.35 forecast very different to the last few nights with Alex Deakin, no mention of severe frosts now on Saturday night. Even tonight is forecast to be below freezing but as it stands I can't see that happening. That band of snow looks interesting for the Midlands but as we know it'll likely change.

I missed the tv forecasts but the bbc online forecast was updated at 9:50 and shows the possibility of disruptive snow mid week with a scandi then building but short lived and moving away next weekend.

I've never heard the word uncertain so many times! Snow here maybe tomorrow but frankly very vague after Sunday. Not so much weather for the week ahead, more weather for the weekend!

One of the most wintry for YEARS!

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Dry, sunny but cold for many through Saturday.

Today:

After a frosty and icy start, most will enjoy a sunny day but it will remain cold for all. Scattered wintry showers will affect eastern coastal districts. Clouding over in the northwest with inland sleet and snow sinking southeastwards.

Tonight:

Sleet and snow across northwestern areas continuing to move southeastwards, reaching southeastern counties later and giving accumulations in places. Less cold in the west but another severe frost further east.

Sunday:

Early sleet and snow easing but a cloudier day away from the far east. Rain moving into western areas through the afternoon, possibly turning to snow in places. Staying cold.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Some uncertainty but western areas are likely to be cloudier with rain, sleet and snow possible whilst eastern parts stay drier but colder with overnight frost and freezing fog possible.

Hey - you may be in the firing line for wintry showers tonight. (On the edge of it). - But still a lot of uncertainty regarding tonight's weather. haha. Does look like it will not reach the home counties let alone SE either.

It's a little unusual for central and southern parts to get snow from a northerly - looks like they could see more than Aberdeen.

Keep us up to date with your snow reports tonight Marcus!

Still not happy with this coldest spell since 2013.

Just saw the BBC N 24 weather - Weather for Monday - Shows rain over Dartmoor/Exmoor but snow over east Devon including Exeter stretching towards Dorset - even over Lyme Regis and Weymouth. Temperatures of +9c. Yet they said there could be a mixture of rain, sleet or snow almost anywhere'. hmmm...time till tell.

UK Outlook for Thursday 21 Jan 2016 to Saturday 30 Jan 2016:

There is much uncertainty about the weather during the first couple of days, currently various fronts are expected to make slow progress eastwards across the UK, bringing rain, sleet and some snow in places. Wettest conditions will be in the west and eastern areas may remain cold and dry until the weekend. From the weekend onwards the slightly more likely scenario is for milder and unsettled conditions with showers or longer spells of rain to move across all areas, with the heaviest rain likely in the west and southwest. Although it should be milder, there are likely to be colder spells between the bands of rain. The alternate less likely scenario is for the current split, of cold weather in the east and milder weather in the west, to persist.

UK Outlook for Sunday 31 Jan 2016 to Sunday 14 Feb 2016:

As we move from January into February we continue in a very uncertain period of weather. The strongest signal is for the northern half of UK to see an unsettled period, with rain or showers, strong winds and some snow at times mixed with brighter, drier periods. Southern parts in contrast should see drier and more settled conditions with frost and fog at times, although even here occasional rain cannot be ruled out. Temperatures should be generally around average for the time of year, but towards the middle of February the potential for greater incidences of colder weather increases.

Perhaps their long range models are picking up northern blocking. Feb and Mar were always going to be the favourable months.

Of course, by mid Feb its a bit late so we need deep cold uppers
