The dusting max 3cm over hills has all but melted. Just enough time to build a little snowman and take nice photos.

So in Didsbury, South Manchester we managed about a cm cover last night, although by now it has pretty much completely gone. It's always difficult getting snow cover here, right down at sea level in the Mersey Valley, along with the UHI effect. In fact I'd wager I live in one of the most snowless parts of Greater Manchester.

But today we took a trip up to East Lancs and I'm glad we made the effort!

Took the A675 and made the diversion to a little place called Tockholes. It was really, really bleak, with driving snow, deep drifts, and a freezing wind. Didn't expect to see any snow falling so that was a nice bonus. After a short walk we found a fantastic little pub, The Royal Arms. One of the best pints (and chip barms) I've ever had! :P

In terms of snow cover, one of the best places seemed to be a little place called Belmont.. It was a real winter wonderland there. Bolton itself had also done really well, that part of the NW must have caught the heaviest of the precipitation.

Perfect Sunday. :D

Drove from Dover to the western Chilterns early today for a long -planned walk.  Snow started around Maidstone, pepped up to a cm by West Malling, from Clackett Lane to Leatherhead there was a mighty 2cms, possibly more.  It was the most pleasant drive on the M25 EVER.  Not only was it very quiet, but every tree was snow coated upon the Downs.  Fabulous.  Round to Heathrow very little, the odd smattering, but as soon as I drove out of Henley upon Thames towards Christmas Common upon the Chiltern Plateau it was a winter wonderland.  Amazing what 1-2 cms of snow can do.  Here is a representative picture of a snow clad beech woodland

I hope its not the only English snow I see this year.:

The rain shower at noon here added to the miserable feel today. A shame really, the kids are disappointed. We are planning on a snow break somewhere  in the UK before the winter is out...hopefully we won't have to travel too far and the proposed atlantic domination doesn't last too long.

Very light snow for the last hour or so has left a fresh dusting.
Most snow still intact from last night although some has melted especially on pavements.
Temperature is on the rise though. Up to 0.2c now and Met Office forecast shows up to 1c in the early hours which will probably melt that up in the trees.

I'm just back from a drive on the Peak district over the Cat and fiddle. some nice small drifts which are knee deep in parts. Hard to put a gauge on depth as it is windy and blowing around. Lots of people sledging up there though. Roads are very clear even the side roads.

stopped at place before cat & fiddle where everyone was sledging - but it had the most stupid car park in history with 8 places

stopped at cat & fiddle & it was shut !!!

As we left there was a road on the left for derby bridge road & in the distance there was loads of cars stranded on the hill !!

Well we ended up with just over 1cm of snow from last night when I left the house at 8am to travel to Worcester, where it was raining, when I got back at 5pm it had all melted, not unexpected though.

The pub is closed until Feb whilst they look for a new landlord. The road to Derby Bridge is steep but sure it is a dead end so surprised so many vehicles were stuck.

Derbyshire council clearly dont treat the side roads like Staffs Moorlands do as they were worse. Still some good photo ops and I used my dashcam to record the journey so will upload and link some stuff.

We had a few light snow flurries here on and off for an hour or two between 3 and 5pm. It's nice to see snow falling even of its not settling. Finally feeling properly wintry! Fingers crossed for the forthcoming week.

Images of snowfall coming in from central and northern Scotland this morning. Seems to be an inland event. The showers are heading south into the central belt where it's sunny and -1 C here in Edinburgh. A wee bit of potential perhaps?
