Met office update

UK Outlook for Monday 23 May 2016 to Wednesday 1 Jun 2016:

A spell of fairly settled weather is likely at first, but otherwise rather changeable conditions are expected across the UK. There will be showers or longer spells of rain at times, these likely to be heaviest and most persistent in the north and west. There will also be some sunshine, the best of this in the east, although some eastern coastal areas may be affected by fog or low cloud at times. There will be light winds for many, but strong to gale force winds could develop in the west and southwest at times. Temperatures will generally be near or below average for the time of year, however winds are likely to turn more southerly towards the end of the month, bringing an upturn in temperatures especially across the south.

UK Outlook for Thursday 2 Jun 2016 to Thursday 16 Jun 2016:

There remains considerable uncertainty regarding the most likely conditions to affect the UK through this period, and confidence in the details is low. However, a continuation of the rather changeable weather is probable, at least at first, with an increasing chance of high pressure becoming established as we move towards mid-June. Showers or longer outbreaks of rain are expected, especially in the north and west, interspersed by drier and brighter interludes. The south and east should see more in the way of dry and bright weather, these perhaps becoming more widespread later. Temperatures are expected to be near or above average, with the possibility of warm or very warm conditions at times in the south, although these would bring the risk of thundery showers.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 24 May 2016 to Thursday 2 Jun 2016:

The start of this period will see some drier weather than the preceding days, but with a continued mix of dry spells, areas of rain, and showers in between. By Wednesday more unsettled and breezy conditions will develop from the south as bands of showery rain, perhaps thundery, push northwards across central and southern areas. These unsettled conditions are then likely to extend across all parts, with the wettest weather most likely in the south and west while the north and east may see some longer dry spells. Temperatures will be near average at first, probably rising slowly to above average through the period. By the start of June there is a chance of drier, more settled weather developing for most.

UK Outlook for Friday 3 Jun 2016 to Friday 17 Jun 2016:

There remains considerable uncertainty regarding the most likely conditions to affect the UK through this period, and confidence in the details is low. However, as we go through June there are signs that high pressure could remain close to the UK helping to bring mostly settled weather. Despite this signal, some rain is still likely at times, particularly towards the south, with the risk thundery rain occasionally spreading north from the continent. Temperatures are favoured to be slightly above average for most places, with the warmest temperatures likely in the west and south.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Wednesday 25 May 2016 to Friday 3 Jun 2016:

A mixture of dry, sunny weather, at first accompanied by outbreaks of showery rain. There is also a low risk that further showery rain could extend northwards across southern and central areas. This unsettled pattern is expected to continue from next weekend onwards, with showers or longer spells of rain interspersed with drier, more settled periods. During this period southern areas are likely to see the wettest conditions, with the driest weather in the extreme north. Temperatures near normal at first, but rising to around average through the period, but possibly above average away from the east coast. By the start of June there are signs that warmer, more settled weather could develop for most.

UK Outlook for Saturday 4 Jun 2016 to Saturday 18 Jun 2016:

There is low confidence in the likely conditions through early June. However there are signs that more settled conditions may develop, with high pressure close to the UK. This could bring drier conditions for most, especially across northern areas, with interludes of showery and possibly thundery weather into southern parts. Temperatures are favoured to be probably just above average for most areas, especially in the south and west.

Met office update

UK Outlook for Thursday 26 May 2016 to Saturday 4 Jun 2016:

Southern parts of the UK look likely to be unsettled at first with warm air drifting up from the continent. This will bring bands of rain or showers, at times, with potential for thunderstorms. Rain, however, will be rather intermittent, so in unaffected areas and between unsettled spells there will be some dry, bright or sunny weather, although feeling rather humid. There is uncertainty about how far north this unsettled weather extends, but generally the north, particularly the northwest, looks drier with some sunshine, although occasional rain is still possible. Northern temperatures look around average, so feeling pleasant and fresher than the south. Perhaps, for the end of the bank holiday weekend but more likely into the start of June, becoming drier, more settled and fresher as high pressure develops.

UK Outlook for Sunday 5 Jun 2016 to Sunday 19 Jun 2016:

Currently it looks likely that more settled conditions will continue for the start of June, with high pressure close to the UK. This should bring settled, dry and sunny weather for most. High pressure may break down, at times, as we go further into the month, bringing some wetter interludes, with rain or showers and a risk of thunderstorms, although these most likely in the south. Temperatures are favoured to be just above average for most areas, especially in the south and west.

UK Outlook for Friday 27 May 2016 to Sunday 5 Jun 2016:

Southern parts of the UK look likely to be unsettled at first with warm air drifting up from the continent bringing a risk of scattered, heavy showers, perhaps with hail and thunder in places. There will still be some dry, bright or sunny weather in-between the showers. There is uncertainty about how far north this unsettled weather extends, but generally northern parts, particularly the northwest, looks to stay drier with more in the way of sunshine. By Bank Holiday Monday, but more likely into the start of June, it looks to become more settled and drier across much of the UK as high pressure will tend to build. Temperatures across the north starting on the cool side but trending upwards. Elsewhere temperatures around average, or perhaps warm in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Monday 6 Jun 2016 to Monday 20 Jun 2016:

Currently it looks likely that generally settled conditions will continue through the first half of June, as high pressure remains close to the UK. This should bring reasonable dry and sunny weather for most, particularly in the northwest, whilst some showery outbreaks are still possible in some parts. High pressure may break down later in the period, bringing some more unsettled conditions, with rain or showers and perhaps some stronger winds. Temperatures are favoured to be just above average for most areas, especially in the south and west.

BBC monthly outlook

Monday 23 May—Sunday 29 May
Slowly warming up but with thundery rain possible

The new week starts off with Monday being another day of some pleasant sunshine after a chilly start but with a few heavy showers breaking out by the afternoon. Most of the showers will be in central and south-eastern parts of England, where there may be a few thunderstorms among them. Tuesday will be a mainly dry day, with only southwest England seeing a few sharp showers. Eastern counties will be cooler and more cloudy, while most places see some sunny intervals. By Wednesday there's a threat of rain moving westwards from the North Sea. So after a dry start, many northern and eastern areas can expect a lot of cloud and some outbreaks of rain in the afternoon, and it will be quite cool again.

Later in the week, things should start to warm up slowly: for Thursday, there will be sunny intervals and a scattered showers developing almost anywhere. For Friday and Saturday parts of England and Wales can expect some heavy, thundery downpours punctuating some warm sunshine. Scotland and Northern Ireland should see the brightest, driest weather but with temperatures nearer normal.

Monday 30 May—Sunday 5 June
Bank holiday! Washout or picnic?

The week begins with the Spring bank holiday and current signs are promising: many parts of the country should be warm and have some sunshine. While many places stay dry, localised thundery showers may spoil the afternoon and evening in parts of England in particular. This type of weather will probably prevail through the week as June starts: it is likely to stay quite warm, especially in the south, while the afternoons will see scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. Conditions on the near continent will probably favour the development of areas of thundery rain, and it can't be ruled out that a few longer outbreaks of heavy rain could spread over from mainland Europe.

Monday 6 June—Sunday 19 June
Dry spells to prevail

Looking ahead to the central fortnight of June, and we can only talk of trends in the weather compared to the average. The indications at the moment suggest high pressure will be in charge of the weather pattern over the British Isles for much of this period. This translates into a good deal of dry weather with some sunshine, and with temperatures often on the warm side. For some days, showers and perhaps the odd thunderstorm may be triggered during the day, while a short spell of westerly winds and more unsettled weather cannot be ruled out. Overall, northwestern parts are expected to have the longest dry spells, and will therefore have below average rainfall, while southern and southwestern parts have the higher temperatures but also the higher risk of the showery outbreaks.

Next week

Is June still shaping up to be a pleasant summer month?

UK Outlook for Saturday 28 May 2016 to Monday 6 Jun 2016:

Many areas should see some fine, dry weather over the Bank Holiday weekend, especially the northwest, but with some scattered heavy thundery showers possible, more especially in the south. It should be rather warm generally, although eastern coasts may remain chilly. There is a risk of more persistent rain, stronger winds and cooler conditions affecting parts of the east and south later in the Holiday weekend and into early next week. From midweek onwards settled weather may become more widespread across the UK, with longer periods of dry and bright weather, but still with a risk of some showers or outbreaks of rain, possibly thundery, particularly in the south. Temperatures are then likely to be somewhat above average, particularly in the south and west, with a humid feel at times.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 7 Jun 2016 to Tuesday 21 Jun 2016:

Currently it looks likely that generally settled conditions will continue through the first half of June, as high pressure remains close to the UK. This should bring a good deal of dry and sunny weather for most, particularly in the northwest, whilst some showery outbreaks, possibly thundery, are still possible in places. High pressure may break down later in the period, bringing more unsettled conditions, with rain or showers and perhaps some stronger winds. Temperatures are favoured to be just above average for most areas, especially in the south and west.

UK Outlook for Sunday 29 May 2016 to Tuesday 7 Jun 2016:

Much of the United Kingdom, especially the northwest, will see dry, bright and reasonably warm weather over the Bank Holiday weekend. However some parts of both Wales and the southern half of England will have scattered heavy showers in between bright or sunny spells, with hail and thunder likely. There is also a chance that more widespread rain and strong winds will move in from the continent to affect southern and eastern areas later on. Then next week it will start unsettled across central, southern and eastern parts with showers or longer spells of rain, again probably heavy and thundery in places. However as the week goes on it looks likely that more settled conditions will encroach from the west and north and become established through into the following week.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 8 Jun 2016 to Wednesday 22 Jun 2016:

Currently it looks likely that generally settled conditions will continue through the first half of June. Thus we can expect a good deal of dry and bright weather for most, particularly in the northwest, but with a few wetter intervals mixed in, these potentially thundery. The temperature will most likely be a bit warmer than the June average on the whole, especially in the west and south. Then as we head towards the latter part of June there are currently no strong signals for any weather out of the ordinary, although there remains a small chance of more unsettled conditions becoming established.

UK Outlook for Monday 30 May 2016 to Wednesday 8 Jun 2016:

Much of the United Kingdom, especially the northwest, will see dry, bright and reasonably warm weather for the end of May. Southeastern areas, however, should be cloudier and cooler, and increasingly likely to see outbreaks of rain, which could turn heavy and thundery and perhaps more prolonged for a time, accompanied by strengthening winds. This pattern of weather looks to continue for the start of June, with showers or longer spells of rain most likely in the east and southeast, with the best of the warmer, drier and brighter weather in the west and northwest. However, there is a signal for the weather to become more generally drier and brighter across the UK towards the end of the period, although there remains a threat of showers in the south.

UK Outlook for Thursday 9 Jun 2016 to Thursday 23 Jun 2016:

Currently it looks likely that generally settled conditions will continue through the start of this period. This means we can expect a good deal of dry and bright weather for many parts of the country, particularly in the north and northwest. There will probably be some wetter intervals mixed in, these most likely in the south, where they could turn thundery at times. Towards mid-to-late June, there is a chance that more unsettled conditions could become established, although the timing and likelihood of this change remains uncertain. Temperatures, on the whole, will probably be slightly above the June average, especially in the west and south.
