Met office update

UK Outlook for Tuesday 31 May 2016 to Thursday 9 Jun 2016:

Many places will see some rain through Tuesday and Wednesday, this perhaps heavy and thundery at times, with the wettest conditions likely in eastern and southeastern areas. It will also be breezy for most parts, particularly in the east, where the wind will make it feel quite cool. Despite this rain, northern and western Scotland may remain dry and sunny. Thereafter most parts of the country should see a good deal of dry weather, but also showers at times, these most likely across the south. Northern and western parts will most likely see the driest, sunniest and warmest conditions, while southern and eastern parts may see the fine weather broken up by some cloudier, cooler days with rain at times.

UK Outlook for Friday 10 Jun 2016 to Friday 24 Jun 2016:

Currently it looks likely that generally settled conditions will continue until the start of this period. This means we can expect a good deal of dry and bright weather for many parts of the country, particularly in the north and west where the best of any warm and sunny weather should be. There will probably be some wetter intervals mixed in, these most likely in the south and east, making it feel cooler at times. Towards mid June, there is a chance that more unsettled conditions could become established, bringing some cooler and wetter weather to northern and western parts, while drier, warmer conditions become favoured towards the south and east.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 1 Jun 2016 to Friday 10 Jun 2016:

Cloud and outbreaks of rain, some heavy and thundery are likely to still be affecting England and Wales during Wednesday and Thursday, but will gradually move south to be replaced by sunshine and heavy showers. Scotland and Northern Ireland however should be mostly dry with variable amounts of cloud. In the sunnier spells it will feel warm, especially in the west, but North Sea coasts are likely to be rather cool, especially in the brisk northeasterly wind. Thereafter most parts should see a good deal of dry weather, but also some showers, these most likely across the south. Northern and western parts will most likely see the driest, sunniest and warmest conditions, while elsewhere may see the fine weather broken up by some cloudier, cooler days with rain at times.

UK Outlook for Saturday 11 Jun 2016 to Saturday 25 Jun 2016:

Currently it looks likely that generally settled conditions seem more likely at first, but still with a risk of some rain or showers at times, with the best of the drier weather towards the north and northeast of the UK. Towards mid June, there is a chance that more unsettled conditions could become established, bringing some cooler and wetter weather to northern and western parts, while drier, warmer conditions become favoured towards the south and east.

UK Outlook for Thursday 2 Jun 2016 to Saturday 11 Jun 2016:

Cloud and rain, locally heavy, especially over northeastern England and southern Scotland possible through Thursday and Friday. Sunshine and showers are likely further south, with western Scotland and Northern Ireland seeing rain later. As we move through next weekend, many places could see dry spells, although further thundery showers are possible, especially in the south. Northern parts should have the driest, brightest weather, with some prolonged sunny spells. Eastern areas probably feeling cooler with plenty of cloud and a brisk easterly breeze. Towards the end of the period some rain or showers are possible across most parts, with the east seeing the driest weather. Temperatures probably coolest along northeastern coasts at first, with warmer conditions elsewhere. Later in the period warmer conditions are likely to reach all areas.

UK Outlook for Sunday 12 Jun 2016 to Sunday 26 Jun 2016:

Starting mainly dry in the east and northeast at first, but most areas seeing some rain or showers at times. Towards mid-June there is a signal for more unsettled weather to develop, with northwestern areas seeing wetter and windier weather, while warmer conditions are favoured in the south and east.

Met office update

UK Outlook for Friday 3 Jun 2016 to Sunday 12 Jun 2016:

This period starts with high pressure to the northwest of the UK and lower pressure to the southeast. This will bring generally dry, settled weather to most areas, especially the north and west, where it will be warm. Easterly winds will be frequent feature and they may become brisk, at times, in eastern coastal areas, bringing cloud, mist and patchy drizzle from the North Sea, making it cooler here. For the south, where pressure will generally be lower, it may be humid and cloudy at times with a risk of showers and perhaps thunder. By mid-week conditions may start to become unsettled from the southwest, with showers or longer spells of rain trying to push in. Temperatures then becoming slightly cooler in the west but warmer for the east coast.

UK Outlook for Monday 13 Jun 2016 to Monday 27 Jun 2016:

Perhaps starting mainly dry in the east and northeast, with the west seeing some rain or showers at times. Then unsettled weather soon becoming prevalent in the northwest, with showers or longer spells of rain interspersed by drier brighter interludes. Meanwhile warmer drier more settled conditions are favoured in the south and east, although rain or showers may still feature at times.

BBC monthly outlook

Monday 30 May—Sunday 5 June
Dry start. Rain for England and Wales midweek.

Bank holiday Monday will see another dry day for many places. Northwest Scotland and Northern Ireland will see a few heavy showers developing, and many eastern counties will be cloudy in the morning. Otherwise there will be plenty of fine, rather warm weather, but eastern coasts will be cool and breezy. For Tuesday and Wednesday, much of England and Wales will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain - some of these heavy and possibly thundery. Scotland and Northern Ireland will be mostly dry with some sunshine, the best of the sunshine over western Scotland. Later in the week, the drier weather will extend southwards with sunny spells in most places, while the northerly breeze will keep eastern coastal areas cooler and sometimes more cloudy. Southeast England keeps the threat of a few showers, even into the weekend, while most of the country should see the dry weather continue, always with the best of the sunshine, and highest temperatures, in the west.

Monday 6 June—Sunday 12 June
More fine weather, especially in the northwest

The mainly fine weather will continue into the second week of June, with many parts of the country dry and warm with sunny spells, and it may become very warm for a time. East coastal parts may remain cooler with some cloudier periods and there's always the chance of a few showers extending from the continent into the south and southwest of England. Its uncertain whether this fine weather will last all week; later in the week the high pressure may weaken and allow more unsettled conditions to move in from the west.

Monday 13 June—Sunday 26 June
Mixed weather most likely

At the moment, there is no strong signal from the computer forecasts of any particular weather pattern prevailing later in June. Winds are more likely to come from the west or southwest, for at least one spell of a few days. This would bring some rain and showers at times, with the rain more likely in the southwest and west, where it may be heavy. Eastern parts will see the best of the drier periods, with temperatures on the warm side at times.

Next week

Further into June, will the northwest keep the best weather?

UK Outlook for Saturday 4 Jun 2016 to Monday 13 Jun 2016:

High pressure centred to the north of the UK will initially bring a generally settled spell of weather for most. The best of the sunshine will likely be across sheltered western and northern parts, whilst eastern and southeastern areas may see more in the way of cloud, and perhaps some showers at times. Northeasterly winds continue, bringing some low cloud, mist and patchy drizzle to eastern coastal districts, making it cooler here. By mid-week conditions may start to become rather more unsettled from the southwest, with showers or longer spells of rain trying to push in. Temperatures away from eastern coasts will generally be near or above normal for the time of year, and feeling humid in southern parts at times, trending back to average later in the period.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 14 Jun 2016 to Tuesday 28 Jun 2016:

Perhaps starting mainly dry in the east and northeast, with the southwest seeing some rain or showers, and brisk winds at times. Then unsettled weather is likely to become more widespread to affect much of the north and west of the UK, with showers or longer spells of rain interspersed by drier brighter interludes. Meanwhile the southeast should hold on to the warmer, drier, more settled conditions for longer, although some rain or showers at times could not be ruled out. Temperatures generally near or just above average, feeling warm or very warm in the southeast at times.

There is very little indication that this summer is going to be horrendous - other than people expecting the worst. June could be dreadful but that tells you nothing about what will happen in July and August.

Met office update

UK Outlook for Sunday 5 Jun 2016 to Tuesday 14 Jun 2016:

High pressure centred to the north of Britain will initially bring a spell of settled weather for most on Sunday, with isolated showers confined to southern areas. The best of the sunshine will be found across central and western parts, whilst the east and northeast are likely to see more cloud, especially along the coast. Then as we go through the week it looks likely that it will gradually become more unsettled with an increasing risk of heavy showers or thunderstorms, especially in the south and west where it may become humid and very warm. However, some northern areas are likely to remain dry. This gradual trend to more unsettled conditions looks likely to continue through the weekend and into the following week, with temperatures also trending back towards average.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 15 Jun 2016 to Wednesday 29 Jun 2016:

It may possibly start dry in the north and northeast, but for most the middle part of June is likely to be unsettled with either showers or longer spells of rain. These are likely to be heavy and thundery at times, with the west and southwest probably experiencing the most unsettled conditions, but there should also be some drier and brighter intervals in between. Then later in the month the latest indications are that it will be changeable, with all areas likely to see rain at times, but with northern areas most likely to have the most rain and the south the best of any drier, brighter weather. Temperatures generally near or just above average, especially in the south.

UK Outlook for Monday 6 Jun 2016 to Wednesday 15 Jun 2016:

High pressure to the north of the UK will bring settled weather for northern parts on Monday and Tuesday, with showers developing across some western parts and in the south with showers here turning heavy and thundery. Through the week it will become unsettled with an increased risk of showers or thunderstorms for most and perhaps a more organised band of thunderstorms pushing north across southern parts. Despite this unsettled spell, it will become warm for all and perhaps very warm and humid in the south. This trend to unsettled conditions looks likely to continue into the weekend and following week with heavy showers or longer spells of rain pushing east and northeastern parts seeing more in the way of drier, settled conditions.

UK Outlook for Thursday 16 Jun 2016 to Thursday 30 Jun 2016:

It should start mainly dry in the north and northeast, but for most the middle of June is likely to be unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain. UK Outlook for Tuesday 7 Jun 2016 to Thursday 16 Jun 2016:

Many places seeing plenty of dry and bright weather, but this interspersed by some showers, most frequent across northern and western parts, though isolated heavy and perhaps thundery showers are still possible elsewhere. Later in the week a more organised band of rain may cross from the west, with eastern areas holding on to the mix of sunshine and showers longest, and perhaps thunderstorms in the southeast. By the middle of June the signal is for a northwest/southeast split to develop with unsettled conditions in the northwest, and drier, brighter conditions in the southeast. Temperatures will generally be rather warm, and locally very warm in some southern parts at first. The trend will then be returning to near normal temperatures by the end of the period.

UK Outlook for Friday 17 Jun 2016 to Friday 1 Jul 2016:

Through the middle of June it is likely to be rather unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, mainly affecting northern and western parts, though some rain is possible across southern and eastern areas too. There will continue to be a risk of some heavy and perhaps thundery outbreaks at times, though there should still be some drier and brighter intervals in between. Towards the end of the month the latest indications are that the drier and brighter conditions which will be more prevalent across southern and eastern parts could spread northwards to give a more settled end to the month. UK Outlook for Sunday 19 Jun 2016 to Sunday 3 Jul 2016:

Initially rather unsettled across much of the UK, with showers or longer spells of rain, interspersed with drier, sunnier periods. As we move through the second half of June, changeable conditions will mostly become confined to northwestern areas, with drier, warmer, sunnier conditions developing further south and east. Towards the end of the month and into July the latest weak indications are that the drier and brighter conditions, could spread northwards to give a more settled start to July. UK Outlook for Friday 10 Jun 2016 to Sunday 19 Jun 2016:

From Friday we should start to see a change to more generally unsettled, and somewhat cooler weather with more organised bands of rain attempting to cross from the west. Winds will remain quite variable across the UK but become breezier around the far south and far north with a low likelihood of gales here. Eastern and southeastern areas, away from the more cloudy coast, are likely to keep the fine, warmer conditions at first, but may also see some heavy showers. It will then remain rather unsettled through the middle part of June, though there will still be drier, sunnier periods for most, between bands of cloud and rain. Temperatures initially warm or very warm for the east, but soon becoming fresher, and sometimes cool in most unsettled spells.

UK Outlook for Monday 20 Jun 2016 to Monday 4 Jul 2016:

Into late June and early July, the most unsettled weather should increasingly become confined to northwestern areas. Generally drier, warmer and sunnier conditions should develop further south and east, although still with a risk of some rain or showers at times. Temperatures generally near normal at first, so mild to warm, but perhaps cool in most unsettled spells. BBC monthly outlook

Monday 6 June—Sunday 19 June
Warming up

High pressure will remain in charge this coming week, bringing further spells of sunshine and warm days across most of the UK. As with every weather day across the UK, there will be exceptions to the rule and North Sea coasts may at times hangs on to murky conditions and that being said, inland, where temperatures will be highest, there will be the risk of showers developing. For the first day of the working week, the bulk of the UK will have a dry and sunny start. North Sea coasts will hang on to some cloud during the morning but this will retreat to the coast through the morning. Southwest England and Wales will be the most likely places to develop some heavy showers as well as the high ground of Scotland but elsewhere it will be dry with just a little cloud bubbling up. Tuesday and Wednesday will start off on a similar note but the risk of large and potentially thundery showers developing will be greater. A quieter weather day will be in store by Thursday ahead of a change moving in from the southwest during Friday. The Atlantic wakes up thanks to a strong jet stream pushing out of the USA and by the weekend, weather fronts start to move through which in turns means a drop in temperatures back to the mid to high teens.

Monday 13 June—Sunday 26 June
From warm weather to...well fairly average weather

At the time of writing, the various global models were broadly grouping together to show a northwest / southeast split across the UK. So what does that mean? As the Atlantic is expected to have more of an influence on the weather, the wetter and the winder conditions are expected to be in the west and northwest where the drier and brighter spells of weather are most likely in the southeast. This will mean the temperatures will average out to where we would expect them to be, climatologically speaking, but as southeastern areas will be drier and brighter, it is possible that we will see warmer than average spells of weather here. West and northwestern areas will see around average rainfall and in general, sunshine for the whole of the UK will be around average too. So while we are expecting an 'average week' it also means that we are unlikely to see temperatures fall below where they should be for this time of year.

Monday 20 June—Sunday 10 July
It's Wimbledon time!

As we get close to Wimbledon season what are the global computer models indicating? There are signals that we will transition from an unsettled northwest / southeast UK divide as discussed above to a more settled finally week of June; the signal for this is stronger across south and southeastern parts of the UK where we could see above average temperatures as we draw warmer air off the continent. However we also need to consider that during the summer time in the UK when a southerly wind direction is set up that over a number of days we tend to run the risk of seeing thundery showers pushing in off the continent.

Next week
How will the stronger jet stream at the end of this week affect the longer term pattern as we head into July?
