Does anyone have a Stevenson Screen for their weather sensor ?

My question - is it worthwhile using it in say a back garden in a built up area- and will it make much difference to say temp measurement in a shaded spot on a north facing fence ?

Thanks Sriram

Hi Sriram- I don't have one but did, before I switched to a digi station some years ago. They were the definitive apparatus leading to data and records which are still counted as valid, so yes- it's worth getting one. The exposure (ie conditions in the garden) is more likely to exaggerate or dampen the readings, depending on the size & structure of your garden, but don't let any technophile tell you it's obsolete- that would give us a few decades of national weather data that could be called reliable!

Schools being closed/ rebuilt/ revamped are good places from which to scrounge one- as I did, as these lagging establishments turn increasingly digital.

Also, it's quite a nice-looking feature with a bit of positive stigma, - like an obelisk, windmill or an OS bench mark on your land.

Good memories of the adrenalin as I opened the front slatted door and couldn't wait to read the apparatus within.

You might be in a position to advise if you would be kind enough. The small screen around my electronic weather station (a Davis V2 Pro) has become 'yellowed' over the years and no amount of scrubbing helps. I am thinking of giving the outer sides of the screen a lick of white paint, but not sure which type to use. Would white gloss be more effective than flat white do you think? given that it is more 'reflective' of light, and I assume, heat? My station is located in a very small garden in a suburban location on the outskirts of a small town.
