Temperatures are soaring in some parts of the country now and over the next few days those temps are not only going to spread to other parts of the country but they're going to be climbing too. For the record please post your high temps here from your own personal station and any official station nearby. Don't forget night time temps too!

Today in Torquay we had hit 20C by 7:30 am. 27C by 9am and 27.2C at 10:40am. The MAX recorded was 29.1C at 3:40pm. A few of the personal weather stations near me recorded 30+ but none of the nearby stations reported anything lower than 25C and most had maxes of 26/27C+. Its hard not having an official station nearby but there's no doubt today we recorded temperatures in the high 20's! Now lets see what we can get on Monday and Tuesday.

To be honest I think it's rather poiness me posting night temperatures on here, and the same goes for many others.

Nights in July are quite often in the mid to upper teens..

Last night for example was 17.4C - nothing exceptional given the average.

This week has actually seen some nights down as low as 12C and that is more below average then 17.4C is above 😉

I suppose it wasn't just the heat that made me ask about night temps but I'm interested for the reason that you mention that we have some oddly low one's recently. Its been down to 12C here too and that's not normal we can get that in the winter usually during an Atlantic storm. But still it will be interesting to see how much daytime heat we can build and then how quickly or slowly it cools down.

27C out there right now, which is unusually warm for here - the westerly breeze is cancelling out the sea breeze that would have otherwise brought relief. Later this week there will be a sea breeze, but just look at that minimum on Wednesday morning! I suspect I'll be going to work in a school filled with sleep-deprived zombies on Wednesday if that comes off...

(The all-time record "max min" is 23C in London IIRC.)

It's quite hard for us to stay very warm all night, under clear skies. During hot weather it's quite normal for it to be around 21C at midnight but it will continue to fall away rather fast. During the one-day heatwave last year it was 23C at midnight, 22C at 1am, 20C at 2am, 19C at 3am etc.

For the record, the average July minimum for southern England is 12.0c (81-10) - so the idea that such temps are cool is for the most part erroneous.

Obviously some parts will have a higher ave min, but some parts of the south will have a lower ave.   As will places further north.

27 two days running this weekend. It feels like tomorrow will get to 30C somewhere.

Cooler night tonight. Last night's min was 18C under the cloud. More like 15C tonight. Dewpoints still high though.

They have us down for 17c tonight and the same Tuesday night into Wednesday. Looks like it might be a bit more comfortable out west. Last nights minimum was 15.6C at 5:20am.

Given the incoming conditions, it's a little concerning that the house took until 1 am to become (sort of) comfortable last night, when the temperature outside was down to around 17*C by 11 pm having peaked at 25.9*C in the middle of the afternoon.

The humidity is of course a key factor here, as the misty start today serves to highlight. In fact, one could reasonably expect that climate change encourages higher humidity levels for a given weather setup now compared to in past decades.

The sun found its way through the mist and murk about 1.5 hours ago and it's already lifted the temperature from around 16*C to near 22*C as of 10am. Expecting somewhere between 27 and 29 as the maximum today. Coupled with strong sunshine (UV Index at 7; very high), the presence of a breeze from the south (sea is 20 or so miles away) will be critical to keeping the house from becoming a sauna.

Tonight's low may be in the 17-18*C range which is in the top 1% of values recorded here since 2000. It's going to be quite a challenge for sleeping, but I enjoy extremes of weather to the extent that I hardly mind

Indeed I am weirdly excited about the potential to see a 20*C minimum tomorrow night (more so than I am about possibly breaching 30*C during the day... that was achieved here last year, after all). The models generally agree on it being above 20 until at least 6 am, but then there is the potential for a swathe of slightly cooler, murky conditions to move across from the southwest, which means that when going by a 9 pm to 9 am overnight period as per the Met Office, the odds are the temp. will dip to 18*C or so right near th end. So as crazy as this will sound to some people, I'm hoping that drop off is delayed or indeed removed, so that I can see a minimum of 20 or more for the first time in my records - for a rural location it would be truly exceptional!
