Think the models are being proved right with their 32-33C consensus (outside the channel islands).

Only 1 more hour of likely heating to go; and there is no momentum at all. Temperatures maxing out at ~32.5C generally with 32.9C recorded earlier at heathrow. A little over 33C seems the likely max.

Currently maxing out at 35.6 in St Peter Port here (as recorded by a reputable weather station) however 'official' stats up at our airport only say 30C, interesting as it certainly feels more like 35C!! It's quite frankly... boiling!!

If the max turns out to be something like 34.2C then both are out!

31.5*C with a dew point of 16*C which is feeling pretty sweltering. People without frequent access to water are looking unsteady on their feet. Walking into an air conditioned store felt like stepping into a freezer - I actually gasped at the shock.

The SE wind direction is allowing for a longer land fetch than usual here. Of course this matters even more up toward the likes of Pershore. A wide area around there - even extending into Wales a bit - is reporting values that round to 33*C, which is impressive to say the least.

The plume is still pushing in, with the peak coverage potentially not occurring until some point in the night - hence the scope for such high temperatures during the darker hours.

With that in mind it seems entirely possible that the temperature could keep creeping upward in some spots until at least 5 pm. A battle between the increasing potential maximums and the lengthening shadows... will a 34*C be achieved? We should soon know!

I honestly don't know; this is what the met says on their website

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/datapoint/product/uk-daily-site-specific-forecast

Whether we get a record or not will, I think, depend on this technicality.
