For more than two thirds of the UK's population, no heatwave to speak of. Don't see the point of this thread.

I wonder how long it's been since we last had a final week of August as warm (or indeed hot) as this in the southeast.

The mean maximum looks to be near 28 or 29 for the likes of Heathrow (having made adjustments for urban heat island effects), with a mean minimum of about 15 or 16, giving an overall mean of around 22 or 23 for the week.

I can't recall anything even close to that for the final week of the last 10 Augusts at least.

Time to do some digging - but if anyone knows some historical Heathrow stats I would greatly appreciate your insight

I just wouldn't bother making a 'cold spell' thread if it only affected Scotland. Maybe just discuss it on the appropriate threads.

It may not technically be a heatwave but the importance of the word is in conveying meaning and therefore it is in my opinion appropriate. Also the forum isn't exactly very busy at the moment so there's absolutely nothing wrong with this thread. There are some grumpy people around. Honestly, it must be lack of vitamin D farther north that's doing it.

29.2c here - just failed to pip the 29.3c on recorded on 22nd Aug last year (which was also a "1 day wonder", as this is most likely to be in these parts)
