Came across the following pix of the Isle of Dogs - the first taken in the 1980's (Christ it was fecking grim then) and an up to date one that includes where Western Europe's tallest residential tower is set to be built. It's the grey three tier structure in the foreground.

The compare and contrast is unbelievable.

All these sites have been / are being redeveloped just like Canary Wharf in the photo. Yes the developers make plenty of money when the market is right for letting these huge office and residential complexes but I think it s a good thing that the sites are being used and not just left to rot

The tallest UK residential building at the moment is also on the Thames at Vauxhall being St Georges Tower Wharf at about 600 feet and 50 floors. I photographed this edifice the other day on a river trip

Most of the work being done there could be done from my shed if we had proper Broadband and a mobile signal.
The shed didn't cost £billions and when it eventually has to be taken down it won't cost more £billions

It's a huge and pointless way to spend money like water, which could have been better spent on infrastructure further round the country instead of making London and the SE even more congested.

(fascinating pictures though)
