Today became the day that I took on the might of the NHS booking system. If you are given an appointment, is it not reasonable to assume that you would be seen within half an hour or so of that time? To be fair, appointments that don't include seeing a doctor, are usually within this time frame, but if a doctor is involved, the waiting time could be more than 4 hours. This is what happened yesterday, and was heading that way again today, before I called time. Upon making enquiries, I was unable to get a time for my consultation, so I politely  told them, enough is enough, and started my journey home. There was little information to be gained today anyway.

The MRI scan went as planned, although I had not bargained on the one and a quarter hours it took, laying still, in a not very comfortable position that it took. The results I should get on Monday, and hopefully it will reveal the reason for my hand problem.

Now I know that most of you will think that I was silly taking the above action, but you were not there listening to others with the same problem. It is not a isolated occurance, it happens every time, and needs to be sorted out. It is costly as I have to pay waiting time for the cab, very annoying, and plainly downright rude.

I remember taking our eldest to Great Ormond Street once a year and on occasion having to wait a couple of hours. to be fair it was usually because of a problem with another patient but hospital waiting rooms are not a great place to spend too much time.

Isn't the hospital able to arrange transport for you?  I'm not really familiar with this area but I thought there was a service available. Keeping a taxi waiting outside sounds like an expensive option.

Anyhow, fingers crossed for the MRI scan results.

Thanks for the posts of support guy's, the reaction to my action was not as suspected, I thought people would be down on me like a ton of bricks. Long term, I may well suffer for my actions, but it did make me feel a little better walking out.

I am still very, very tired, but bodily functions are working well, and I am happy with that. Eating is the only issue right now, and will have to be addressed.

I have a few days respite now before battle resumes on Monday.

Morning Dougie.  I'm not convinced that you will suffer long term by your actions yesterday and sometimes you need to address the short term problems first.  It seems clear to me that hanging around waiting was doing you no good mentally and emotionally.  It was wearing you down and you acted accordingly.  Sometimes you just have to regain control over your own life!

I agree with Gandalf, the hospital should be able to arrange transport for your visits.  If it isn't something you've explored already, maybe you should make enquiries.  You shouldn't have to bear the cost yourself, especially with the number of appointments you have.

Here's hoping you have a better day.  Remember to smile occasionally!  It's good therapy.   X

My actions from yesterday answers that.

Evening Dougie.   Yes the question of hospital transport has already been discussed and I'm frustrated for you.  I wish there was a solution to this problem that would make life a little less stressful for you.  Of course if the NHS got their appointment system sorted, the problem wouldn't exist.    There were times I felt there was a fortress around the people who could help my mum.  It is so annoying but at least you showed them how you felt.

Well, that all happened yesterday and I'm hoping you've had a more 'normal' day today doing something that makes you happy.  X

Hi Dougie,

I can imagine it was very frustrating being kept waiting like that... In my long experiences with the NHS around 75% of the experience is really waiting around... Waiting for appointments, waiting for tests, waiting for test results, waiting for your treatments, etc...

Take a few days rest and relaxation and hopefully you'll be feeling ready for everything to ramp up again on Monday.

Morning Dougie.  I hope you've managed to get some sleep and feel a bit more positive today.  I know it's a hard slog for you with new battles every day and other people aren't helping at all, but you do have the strength to fight.  Don't let the b'stards grind you down!  You've shown such determination and I know you have it in you, I have faith in you.

Make today a good day!   X

Hope you're ok Dougie, good on you for a least having the gumption to not stand for the messing around you seem to endure on a daily basis. Keep fighting xx

Aww Dougie. I guessed you were down and i thought it had come to the point of you not wanting to say any more.  The point where it's all been said before.  It's a long slog and words are sometimes not enough but if thoughts could heal, you'd be quite well now because we all genuinely care about you and we're willing you to feel better.

Sometimes when you're feeling so low, it's hard to see a way out but there always is a way.  You just need to take a step back and relax for a while and then come back all guns blazing.  You may think at this moment in time that you've lost the fight within you, but you haven't.  It's still there.  Somewhere deep down, but I believe it will surface again.

If you really want to take a break from posting, that's OK. You have to do what's best for you.  But just remember we're here for you and we care!  I'll certainly be thinking about you and I know others will be too.

Take care Dougie.  I'll keep looking for your posts. X
