It has been raining here steadily since last night but there has been no data for that for either Edinburgh Gogarbank or the botanic gardens in Edinburgh since 2pm yesterday at weathercast.co.uk. Since I have no other means of being able to get any of the latest data for the botanic gardens, I have no option other than to report the data for Edinburgh Gogarbank in the meantime. I can get that data from SEPA, although that is always an hour or so behind weathercast.co.uk.

For that reason, I can only report that a total of 2.2 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank during yesterday up to midnight, followed by a further 3.6 mm of rain during this morning between midnight and 6am. This means that the running totals for Edinburgh Gogarbank up to 6am this morning, taking a rain day to be one where 1 mm or more of rain has fallen were as follows:

Monthly Total For October: 27.9 mm (Expected), 27.8 mm (Actual)
Number of Rain Days in October so far: 4.2 (Expected), 6 (Actual)

We have now had 32.9% of our average October rainfall and 46.9% of our average number of rain days in October so far, so this month is currently 0.4% drier than average according to the actual rainfall amounts, but 41.8% wetter than average according to the number of rain days.

2017 Autumn Total: 85.9 mm (Expected), 86.0 mm (Actual)
Number of Rain Days so far this autumn: 14.6 (Expected), 22 (Actual)

We have had 40.0% of our average autumn rainfall so far and 60.1% of our average number of rain days for this autumn so far, so this autumn is currently 0.1% wetter than average according to the actual rainfall totals, and 50.4% wetter than average according to the number of rain days.

2017 Yearly Total: 560.4 mm (Expected), 587.2 mm (Actual)

We have had 77.8% of our average annual rainfall so far, so this year is currently 3.5% wetter than average.

One of those dangerous orographic events for Cumbria today with 4" or more likely.
As usual in such events 50 miles to the east here we have patchy drizzle.

Yes the rain radar looks very intense around the Lakes!

Dry here with the odd bit of drizzle as is usually the case with this set up.
12.2mm for the month.

It was only really later on last night that this rain eventually extended itself a bit further east to reach us here in Edinburgh.

I can only imagine that this is probably only due to a slight change in the wind direction, resulting is us being not as sheltered from any high ground and in fact, there are still some areas (according to the latest rain radar maps) further to the east of here (such as in East Lothian and Berwickshire) which are seeing very little of that rain, if anything at all.For here, today's total has now increased to 5 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank (weathercast.co.uk still isn't showing any rainfall totals which means that I still can't give any updates for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh) which brings this month's total to 29.2 mm, and this means that today is already our second wettest day of this month so far.

This rain was supposed to clear away to the south, but it still hasn't done so yet and as I write, it has actually returned northwards a bit to end up back over us once again after briefly stopping a short of while. So far this month has been interesting because whilst there are still a few members reporting higher rainfall totals than me, that isn't happening to the same extent as last month and there are more members than last month who are in locations which are much drier than here. It looks as though this will continue for a while during this month because as the south of England enjoys an Indian Summer by the weekend (and therefore, much drier weather), we are forecast to see yet more rain which means that this could end up turning out to be rather a wet month here in the end.

Finally, it has now managed to stop raining here after such a miserable morning in this part of the world, but not before this event dumped 6 mm of rain during today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at midday (the actual current total will probably be a bit higher than that since it was still raining even then), thus bringing this month's total to 30.2 mm for that same station.

Since my last report, a further 0.8 mm of rain has fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank from some showers which were around yesterday evening, and that takes yesterday's final total for that site to 6.8 mm making it the second wettest day of the month so far. This morning has been dry so far though and so, the current running totals for Edinburgh Gogarbank for up to 8am this morning and taking a rain day to be one where there has been at least 1 mm of rain is as follows:

Monthly Total For October: 30.9 mm (Expected), 31.0 mm (Actual)
Number of Rain Days in October so far: 4.7 (Expected), 6 (Actual)

We have now had 36.7% of our average October rainfall and 46.9% of our average number of rain days in October so far, so we are currently bang on average for this month according to the actual rainfall amounts when that anomaly is reported to the nearest 0.1%, although this month is currently 28.2% wetter than average according to the number of rain days.

2017 Autumn Total: 89.2 mm (Expected), 88.9 mm (Actual)
Number of Rain Days so far this autumn: 15.1 (Expected), 22 (Actual)

We have had 41.3% of our average autumn rainfall so far and 60.8% of our average number of rain days for this autumn so far, so this autumn is currently 0.4% wetter than average according to the actual rainfall totals, and 45.9% wetter than average according to the number of rain days.

2017 Yearly Total: 563.4 mm (Expected), 590.4 mm (Actual)

We have had 78.3% of our average annual rainfall so far, so this year is currently 3.6% wetter than average.

I can report that weathercast.co.uk is once again showing rainfall figures for the botanic gardens, but that data is only there for the period from 10am yesterday morning onwards, and there is still nothing there for the period from 2pm on the day before yesterday up until until 10am yesterday. Since that was clearly a period when we had some rain, that has resulted in some missing data which means that I am unable to give an accurate account of the current total for this month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, although I can now confirm that 3 mm of rain fell at the botanic gardens during yesterday between 10am and midnight with the period from midnight at the beginning of today up until 9pm tonight being completely dry (sadly though, we have since had some showers which have arrived from the west which means that despite the fact that today was forecast to be the best day of the week in this part of the world, we still haven't even managed to get a completely dry day from that).

Due to that gap in the data for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, my plan for now is to continue to use Edinburgh Gogarbank as the station which I will be reporting on until such time that the botanic gardens in Edinburgh publishes its final data for this month on its website at the beginning of next month. Once that happens and if everything is still working well at weathercast.co.uk at that time, I will then be able to switch back to giving my reports for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh but in the meantime, the fact that I am able to get the rainfall data from weathercast.co.uk once again means that I should now be able to give a more up to date report for Edinburgh Gogarbank than what I was able to do by using the data from SEPA.

Last night, 1.2 mm of rain fell during the last couple of hours of yesterday leading up to midnight at Edinburgh Gogarbank with a further 0.4 mm of rain falling during the early hours of this morning. This means that the current running totals for Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7am taking a rain day to be one where at least 1 mm of rain has fallen are as follows:

Monthly Total For October: 33.5 mm (Expected), 32.6 mm (Actual)
Number of Rain Days in October so far: 5.1 (Expected), 7 (Actual)

We have now had 38.9% of our average October rainfall and 54.7% of our average number of rain days in October so far, so this month is currently 2.7% drier than average according to the actual rainfall amounts, but 37.9% wetter than average according to the number of rain days.

2017 Autumn Total: 91.5 mm (Expected), 90.8 mm (Actual)
Number of Rain Days so far this autumn: 15.5 (Expected), 23 (Actual)

We have had 42.0% of our average autumn rainfall so far and 63.5% of our average number of rain days for this autumn so far, so this autumn is currently 0.8% drier than average according to the actual rainfall totals, but 48.6% wetter than average according to the number of rain days.

2017 Yearly Total: 566.0 mm (Expected), 592.0 mm (Actual)

We have had 78.5% of our average annual rainfall so far, so this year is currently 3.4% wetter than average.

This morning's total isn't yet enough to officially make today a rain day according to my definition for that, but that is likely to change later on with yet more rain approaching from the west and in any case, today is already yet another day which won't be going down as a completely dry one in this part of the world.

In addition to that, I can also report that 1 mm of rain fell last night at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh with a further 0.2 mm during the early hours of this morning. As this new data is coming in, there is occasionally a little bit of the missing data coming in along with that. I will therefore wait in earnest to see if all of that remaining missing data appears and if it does, I might then be able to use the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as the station which I am reporting the data for on this thread.

So far, this shows that 4.6 mm of rain fell at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh on 11 October 2017 in addition to whatever is in that missing data. Since my records show that 6.8 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank, I am guessing that there is probably approximately 2 mm of rain amongst that missing data for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which is unaccounted for since those two stations aren't far away from each other, and the nature of the rain which fell on that day would suggest that there probably wouldn't be that much of a difference in the rainfall totals between those two sites on that day. Only time will tell though, as regards to whether this is the case or not.

We didn't get as much rain during yesterday as I had anticipated since a lot of the rain which was around to the west of here, kept on breaking up and disintegrating just as it was about to reach here. Nevertheless, that didn't prevent a total of 1.2 mm of rain from falling during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This means that the current running totals for that site as at 8am this morning are as follows:

Monthly Total For October: 36.3 mm (Expected), 33.4 mm (Actual)
Number of Rain Days in October so far: 5.5 (Expected), 8 (Actual)

We have now had 39.5% of our average October rainfall and 62.5% of our average number of rain days in October so far, so this month is currently 8.1% drier than average according to the actual rainfall amounts, but 45.3% wetter than average according to the number of rain days.

2017 Autumn Total: 94.3 mm (Expected), 91.6 mm (Actual)
Number of Rain Days so far this autumn: 15.9 (Expected), 24 (Actual)

We have had 42.4% of our average autumn rainfall so far and 66.3% of our average number of rain days for this autumn so far, so this autumn is currently 2.9% drier than average according to the actual rainfall totals, but 50.9% wetter than average according to the number of rain days.

2017 Yearly Total: 568.9 mm (Expected), 592.8 mm (Actual)

We have had 78.6% of our average annual rainfall so far, so this year is currently 3.2% wetter than average.

I can also report that 1.2 mm of rain fell during yesterday at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. It turns out as well, that the missing data for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh for Wednesday 11 October 2017 doesn't affect the number of rain days since there was already well over 1 mm of rain recorded for that day, even without that missing data. This means that I can report the current running totals for the number of rain days at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 8am are as follows:

Number of Rain Days in October so far: 5.3 (Expected), 7 (Actual)

We have had 56.5% of our average number of rain days in October so far so that in terms of the number of rain days, this month is currently 31.2% wetter than average.

Number of Rain Days so far this autumn: 15.5 (Expected), 20 (Actual)

We have had 59.2% of our average number of rain days for this autumn so far so in terms of the number of rain days, this month is currently 28.8% wetter than average.
