Saint Snow

I know the media hysteria makes this spell sound like the entire country is under 10 foot of snow, but there are many people suffering. Suffering from a cruel lack of snow. I think in these unforgiving dry days, us deprived folk need to group together to offer support to each other to help us through these difficult times.

Like me, you will have embarked on this journey full of naïve optimism that the weather gods would be benign and bless you with a few inches of the glorious white stuff at least. After all, with multiple angles of attack being modelled, only the unluckiest of the unlucky would miss out on the fun. And yet here we are, the unluckiest of the unlucky, having had to survive on a meagre couple of centimetres that largely melted or blew away anyway - or, in the most tragic cases, no lying snow at all.

We've had to endure the heartless footage of deep snow as the media machine went into full Express-style frenzy, as we gazed out dolefully onto bare tarmac and barely-dusted grass.

So this is our thread. A place we can share stories of our misfortune and give comfort to each other.

Let us know your tale of woe and your location.

Hello, my names Kieron, and I've not had any usable snow. Has about 1/2cm Monday night, and a dusting yesterday evening, but we've not had:

Any snowmen / ladies / animals made
Not been able to toboggan
Not been able to make any snow balls (lack of snow, not too dry)
Kids have been at school each day

So, for me, in a location where we aren't ideally positioned for snow from any other direction, this Easterly has been disappointing.

Put me on the list too. Apart from a couple of pathetic sprinklings in the past week, I'm still looking at greys, greens and browns. And to add insult to injury, I've just experienced a freezing rain event while still at -2.1 C.

I've never felt this let down since I watched JJ Abram's Star Trek reboot movie.

To say ive had to put up with very cold temps... when the rain finally arrives we will be back in the marginality battle. Thats all we ever seem to be in here in Wirral, despite being surrounded by areas that dont seem to suffer that issue, equally close tot he coast.

I really thought the beast would give us something... but it took everything instead.

Coastal location

In the rain shadow from many cold directions

Often get rain whilst nearby gets snow

Always on the edge of snow events - missing out to the North / South / West in your case.

The wait for a decent snowfall goes on and on here. 11 days from the 5th anniversary of the last time we had more than 6cm lying and time is rapidly running out for this to be rectified this side of summer.

I’ve hated every minute of this horrible, unexceptional and non-severe spell. As well as the complete absence of deep cold and deep snow, the ugly grey un-photogenic  skies have been so depressing. Normally I would be out taking hundreds of photos in a spell of snow but this one has been so awful it’s been about a dozen at the most.  Wish I could expurge it from the memory

I am from a small town called Lowton, 20 miles west of Manchester. After a life time of disappointment when it comes to both wintery and summery weather, I am very pessimistic but with all the hype I allowed myself to get sucked in and I even told friends and family about how bad it was going to be. Then the weather warnings rolled in and we either missed out completely or just sat on the border line of a yellow. Ambers have danced around us literally 30 miles north, south and east. It just wasn't to be. People in my work from any other side of Manchester either can't get in, or park up with their ton of snow on their roof as if to rub it in, in a "let's take a look at what you could've won" way. All showing pictures and videos on their phones of how bad it is at home whilst my home is 90% green and just cold and windy.

Screaming at the news who are acting like we are all going to die. Still, we did get 1cm which the pesky sun melted straight away on Tuesday then a further 1cm Wednesday evening which didn't melt but somehow disappeared. I've been radar watching for days but any snow just fizzles out as it gets here.

I have a 2 year old son who has yet to see enough snow to build a proper snowman . Such a deprived little boy.

It has come to the point where I feel like I have to let this winter go as a winter of disappointment once again.

Here (~Epsom Downs) we usually do well, but never had more than 1-2cm as I watched streamers missing us to our north, south, east and west.

Still it's a pretty picture and of course it's been an absolutely amazing spell of weather for most of the country, but I think it'd have been even better had it happened early in winter due to the warmer sea and lack of solar radiation and of course I wish we had a proper channel low.

Just a light dusting yesterday when places in the east such as Cardiff had serious snow, and even Tenby in the west having a decent covering, but Swansea was caught in the relatively dry middle sector which appeared to be only around 30 miles wide. All I wanted was enough for the children to make a (small) snowman and have a sledge. However, it has been a spectacular period of weather and for once it's justified the media hype (other than the Express!)

Nice thread Saint! It has a certain appealing, wry humour to it!  Not sure if it's intentional or not, maybe I'm just twisted?!!!

I can join in though as the snow level here in Dartford hasn't really affected very much, such as work!!! No snow days for me, but slightly earlier finish as RM have collected our post early the last couple of days & I don't see today as being any different, since it's pretty nasty out there! No school worries either as my lot are all too old, which has also meant no ones interested in snowball fights either, not that they would have had any substance as it's been too powdery!! Now it's just a frozen mess out there!

The front is now stalling around South Staffs, once again a close but no cigar for the NW contingent, which I include myself in.

From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.

In the same boat here on the sunny Isle of Walney... We woke up to a dusting on Tuesday morning that wouldn't have come up to an ants kneecap. I was hoping for more as I had told my teenage kids that we were in for some real snow (The only time they have seen snow deep enough to play in is when we have travelled inland to find some). Being out on the end of a peninsula has its advantages as we don't get as much rain as it tends to fall further inland but it is nearly always windy and it must be one of the most snowless places in the country!
