There goes 29°C... challenging the highest temperature since 2006 now, which is 29.7°C on 29th June 2009.
There;s some high cloud around, streaked across the skies in classic formation.
This afternoon, while reading a book called "Since Records Began: The highs and lows of Britains weather" by Paul Simons, I was caught by this line regarding the attitudes to climate change before the hot summer of 1976:
"After all, what was there really to worry about, when the firs thalf of the 1970s had been a grim procession of cold winters and dissapointing summers." (p.98)
That sure does sound familiar from a weather perspective, and there have even been a few cases of people questioning the proposed long-term rise in UK temperatures based on it. This time around they have been by far the minority, of course.
It's really got me thinking, especially given how the evolution of the situation featured a decent but not nearly as persistently fine and hot summer in 1975.
