After having look at the latest visible satellite images, is it me or this area of high pressure is now starting to look a bit stale and dirty as pollution and some cloud are being dragged into it? Starting to look like it's the same air being recycled around, hence the rising heat and humidity and the hazy sunhine that we do get.
Need to get rid of this high pressure system and then start afresh with a nice, fresh and clean new one.

For me, the strong sun has been the defining feature of this 'heatwave' so far.

While actual 2m temps haven't met the official standard for a heatwave here, each day has felt hot or very hot in the sun, thanks to remarkably clear midday and afternoon skies under the strong high pressure.

I simply can't recall spending such a long run of days unable to handle more than 15 minutes in the sun at any one time. Truly spectacular weather

Had some thick high level cloud for a couple of hours which kept the temperature from rising too much. This has now cleared and we are up to 27.0c now, .5c to go to make the hottest day of the year

Yes, a patch of thickish high cloud put a lid on the temperatures through the morning, but it's cleared now and we've hit 27c. Some congestus trying to get going over to the NE over the NYM, similar scenes out to the W over the eastern Pennines.

Mother has this minute asked me to turn the heating on as she said she feels chilly. I said no as it should warm up soon . . . hopefully especially now that the sun (albeit hazy) is coming out after having been overcast all day.

Currently 17.9 C here at Folkestone with 76% humidity. It feels too nippy to want to sit in the garden but my west-facing room is just slowly starting to warm up as the weak afternoon sun faces it.

21.2C with lovely clear blue skies, (feels much warmer than that though).... might pop to the beach after work - should take me a whole 2 minutes to get there! Oh and the sea water looks clear blue too, hard life living on a tropical island!
