Jonathan Powell, forecaster for Vantage Weather Services, said: “We are looking at a potentially paralysing winter, the worst for decades, which could at times grind the nation to a halt.

“Persistent cold snaps with some very heavy snowfall are likely, and I would not be surprised if some records are not broken this year.

Express from Friday.

The word is out - on the local radio this morning - 'a newspaper is predicting the worst winter for 100 years...' Someone should be archiving these predictions. Obviously I had a brief hope that it might be the Times, with news hot from the Met Office, but alas not, its the sodding Express, regurgitating Powell and Madden, the modern versions of the boy who cried wolf...

Tomorrow's headline in The Express:

'Reincarnated Princess Diana rescued from Historic Blizzard by Illegal Immigrants'

Most of what The Express publishes is complete bollocks of the worst kind and any sane person should dismiss it as such.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 23 Oct 2013 to Friday 1 Nov 2013:

Sunny spells and showers through Wednesday and Thursday, some heavy with thunder and merging into longer spells of rain at times. Rather windy with gales in places, especially in the south and west. Remaining very mild, both by day and night, and rather warm in the sunny spells, particularly in the south and east. Through the rest of next week, remaining unsettled and windy with showers or longer spells of rain, heavy at times. However, some brighter interludes, best across eastern and northeastern parts. Unsettled or changeable conditions are then likely to persist through to the start of November, but with temperatures likely to return to near normal values in most areas. Drier and brighter conditions may become more prevalent in the southeast by then.

UK Outlook for Saturday 2 Nov 2013 to Saturday 16 Nov 2013:

The unsettled or changeable conditions expected towards the end of October will probably carry over into the first week of November, with slightly above average rainfall amounts at first. Temperatures during this period are more likely than not to be close to or a little above average throughout, especially in the south, leading to a lower risk of frost here than can usually be expected at this time of year. There are some indications that from the second week of November northern parts are most likely to be affected by the changeable weather, whilst slightly more dry and settled conditions further south would bring an increased risk of overnight frost and fog, which may be slow to clear. Temperatures during this week will probably be close to the seasonal average.
