I see that Glenogle WS has recently recorded a 106mph gust.

The storm even made headline news on the London radio station I listen to on the way to work.

It looks pretty horrendous up there and the winds reported have already exceeded that St Jude storm that the media was going hyper about a few weeks back. The current gust chart shows quite a few 80+ gusts, with a couple of 100+ so far.

Power is flickering here but still on. Looks like the worst to come in the next couple of hours here.

See the Met Office are currently checking a gust of 141 mph up on Aonach Mor recently.

Meanwhile over here the temperature is slowly starting to fall and the winds are gusting but I think the worst will be over the coming hours (perhaps after it has eased off a little in the Central Belt and West Highlands)

Just spoke to family in Sutherland, they report intense thunder & lightning earlier this morning for half an hour.

Father in law works for Highland Council, all crew are out clearing debris and blown down trees, power off in several remote areas.

Here in Skipton, the rain has landed and gusts to 50 mph, i see east of the Pennines winds approaching 70 mph now.

Just had a 66mph which is the highest recorded since 2009.
The radar image looks exactly like the predictions from yesterday (re. rain band/squall line)
Presumably the worst gusts are associated with that so yet to come.

Just been out to check for damage. The roof has no damage at all, which is great given the re-roofing I did last summer. Had I not done that work we would have had tiles off for sure. Never the less, they were clattering about, and that is with a huge overlap, two nails and a clip!

But we have had minor disruption, some of our trees protective tubes in the garden have been ripped out and a stack of lightweight breeze blocks has been blown over with some smashed. Some of the old tiles from the re-roof have been scatted to the four winds as well. So, some tidying up to do, but nothing serious.

Some power supply disruption this morning on the island, but given speeds it seems very low. Great work from Hydro electric to keep the lights on. Probably trees down and stuff but will see later....

Take care where you still have the gales...it is a bit fierce.

Not sure if that was the squall line but wow! Flash of lightning and amazing wind blowing debris down the street. Reports of damage now on local news in the Central Belt

Pretty blowy even down here this morning. The van had a real buffeting on the way in. Leaves like confetti in the air. I'm guessing we must be gusting close to 50mph here at times.

Scotland on level 2 that is of concern latest from Europe storm centre

A level 2 was issued for Scotland, the central North Sea, Denmark, southern Sweden, eastern Germany, and north-western Poland mainly for severe convective wind gusts.
A level 1 was issued for southern Poland, the Czech Republic, and surroundings mainly for severe convective wind gusts.
SYNOPSIS
Continuing height falls across central and eastern Europe on the one hand and increasing geopotential across the northern Atlantic result in a west-north-westerly flow over most of Europe on Thursday morning. A frontal wave that was located to the south of Iceland on Wednesday 18Z will move south-east and is expected over southern Norway on Thursday, 12Z. Located in a favourably coupled jet streak position, rapid intensification is forecast by latest models and the centre pressure will drop by 40 hPa within 24 hours. A strong winter storm is therefore expected to affect an area from the northern British Isles to the southern Baltic Sea region. Intense cold air advection will be dominant in the wake of the storm. Across southern Europe, subsidence is expected through-out the forecast period.
DISCUSSION
British Isles, North Sea, southern Scandinavia, Germany, Poland, and surroundings
In the morning hours, the North Sea low will move into southern Norway. Its cold front will cross most of the British Isles and the North Sea. Ahead of the cold front, a narrow tongue of boundary-layer moisture with 0-1 km mixing ratio around 5 g/kg will spread from the British Isles to southern Scandinavia. Given moist-adiabatic lapse rates and rather warm sea surface temperatures, weak instability is forecast ahead of the cold front, allowing for a narrow cold frontal rain band with embedded shallow convection. The contribution of deep moist convection to the wind gust occurrence is expected to be weak to the south of the jet core.
From the jet maximum northward, strong DCVA will lead to QG lift and the low-level saturated air mass will become deeper. Thunderstorms are forecast to develop along the cold front from Scotland to the central North Sea until noon. Given very strong vertical wind shear, convection will organize and shallow multicells with linear segments are expected. Especially in the northern portions, rapid movement of these linear segments will result in an increasing surface wind gust threat that warrants a level 2.

While I'm expecting it to become quite gusty at around 2 pm at this end, I don't think it'll be as bad as St Judes (speaking from a IMBY perspective, of course).
But, what will be of concern is prone low lying coastal areas over East Anglia and around the South East coast line being at risk of flooding caused by spring tidal surges tonight and into tomorrow even though the wind itself will have long since eased off.
I bet those living along the coastal fringes of Holland, Germany, Denmark and Norway are at tenterhooks.

At work.

Not a massive ammount of damage to be seen, a tree blocking one carriageway of the A87 at Earlish and lots of debries. A couple of sign posts blown over and the Hydro electric teams working on the lines. A colleague has had a 3ft x 2ft section of roof tiles removed, and trees down in the Dunvegan area as well.

The sun is out though
