Here are the final charts for February and winter.

The most interesting statistic of the winter is that the minimum CET only fell below zero on three occasions and two of those were -0.1C and -0.2C. All three were in January. There were no negative minimum CETs in either December or February. I am not sure this has ever happened before. A quick flick through the minimum CET series which goes back to 1878 does not reveal any other winters with only 3 negative minimum CET days.

Frost was definitely notable by its absence this year. Although I did manage to record 12 air frosts over the winter the coldest night was -2.3C and that was the only minimum that went below -1.2C.

Even in the very mild winter of 1989/90 the minimum CET fell below zero on 7 occasions although 4 of those were in the first half of December. For January and February there were only 3 negative minimum CETs with two of those no lower than -0.4C so very similar to January and February of this year.

1971/2 was also an interesting winter. There were 9 minimum CETs less than zero but only 1 of those was lower than -0.7C (which was 1 Feb with -7.6C).

The other notable feature is how consistent the CET has been all winter with no cold spells or exceptionally mild spells. The mean CET has been close to 6C right the way through with just a bit of a milder spell in mid December.

Here is the February update for the annual CET competition. Still very close at the top of the table but Martyn has moved into the lead on his own.

Cheers Simon.

I got a few points there - that's good. I was a bit disappointed to miss it though. At one point I thought I was going to hit it bang on.

Its all good fun - Thanks for those stats.

What an amazing winter it was in a lot of ways.

Just 0.08c off the lead. I'm going to need a very mild March to stay that close. Thanks GW for all your hard work amazing effort you put into this.
