10.8mm today bringing the total for the month to 33.4mm which is only 58% of the long run mean for the whole of August.
The rainfall totals vary hugely across the country so far this month. The most useful data to look at is the anomaly compared to the long run average. I seem to have one of the lowest figures at just 58% of long run mean.
The lowest figure I can see at a glance is for High Wycombe with just 39% of the long run mean.
Elsewhere in the vicinity Heathrow is at 72%.
Richard in Aberdeen has reason to complain with a rainfall figure of 142% of the mean with still a week to go (on the plus side sunshine is 102% of the mean already and is one of the few places in the UK above 100% for sunshine this month - further south many places are only around 50-60% of the mean).
There are plenty of places with higher rainfall figures further south.
Cornwall has done rather badly this month which is not great for the tourists. As an example Camborne is currently at 197%
Many places along the south coast are close to 150% - Bournemouth Hurn 152%, Herstmonceux 150%.
Highest figure though is at Isle of Portland with 215%
Plenty more rain to come in the next few days so it looks like many places will end up with a thoroughly wet August.
