Yesterday all 4 of the Davis weather stations near me (within 3 miles) had UV5 at 12:45. They're rounding up/down so it was at least 4.5.

Its getting up there now clearly. Meto have Torquay and Exeter down for UV4 this week on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday. While Weymouth manages a UV4 everyday this week from Tuesday. Portsmouth & Cowes, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

Brighton, Eastbourne, Folkestone, Dover manage UV4 on Friday and Saturday. Seems that the higher UV rates increase along the south coast west to east as the week progresses.

City of London UV4 Friday & Saturday.

Oxford UV4 on Friday.

Cambridge & Great Yarmouth UV4 Friday & Saturday.

Norwich UV4 Friday.

King's Lynn UV4 Friday, Saturday.

Shrewsbury UV4 Thursday.

Caernarfon, Colwyn Bay, Liverpool, Blackpool, Morecambe, Durham, Newcastle, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Glasgow, Edinburgh, St Andrews, Leuchars, UV4 Thursday.

So I was working up the country and became pretty shocked at the predictions for this week. These automated forecasts change multiple times a day so I don't know what's going to happen at the end of this week but a prediction for UV4 as far north as Leuchars I wasn't expecting that.

EDIT: Found a UV5 prediction for Dieppe on Friday, 67 miles from Hastings/Eastbourne.

Edit 2: Forgot to mention earlier that most places with UV4 are on or near the coast, Birmingham, Sheffield, Manchester, York, all have UV3.

Its was a terribly dull March, but when the sun is forecast to shine, now in early April, UV 4 is present.  These forecasts change and go up and down more than a whore's drawers so it may have changed again, but currently forecasting, possibly one of the best days of the year so far:

MO have us down for a 5 tomorrow, when we haven't had a 4 yet even on the rare bright/sunny days. Seems a bit suspect to me unless there is a particular reason for it...

I note many UV forecasts on the south coast are also expecting 4s, so inland, in W Berkshire, that's a good result!

The search for a domestic 5 continues, but in the far SW (Penzance) cloud stops play later in the morning. I tried Weymouth and 4 is forecast there with unbroken sunshine around 1pm. I might check out S Devon.

Update: Salcombe, and even jersey, only given a 4 at 1pm. We shall see.

Reading is back online- hooray! Has reached 4.0 today- I've been in the garden, glass of cider, no shirt, rondo Venezziano playing; dozed off twice & had summery flashbacks.

Plenty of UV5's being predicted by meto for next week here and elsewhere even though our local davis stations are already giving us that. Next Wednesday a meto prediction of UV6 for Falmouth, Plymouth, Torquay, Exeter, Weymouth, possibly other places. It will change many times before then but some people will be caught out next week by the strength of the sun no doubt.

Many places in south Devon & Cornwall have a meto forecast of UV6 for tomorrow with less than 24 hours to go. I was tracking it along the south coast west to east and the last place with a 6 is Paignton less than two miles from me. Thats going to be some strong sun tomorrow.

It scares me at those levels as I never used to burn until I started shaving my head and now I burn easily.

Is there something someone should be telling us about our ozone protection or do we routinely see such high values this time of year?
