Yes, it reminds me of the flurry of people posting excellent, sharp and detailed photos of the moon on local social media... seemingly unaware that their phone has just fetched a picture of the moon and pasted it in, in effect!
There'll be an element of this going on with the phone-taken photos of the aurora... definitely algorithmic enhancement, if nothing else.
(It's a shame that regular cameras are now such a rare sight amongst the general public. Even the latest Pixel 8 Pro with all its fancy AI can't take as nice a shot of a wolf, for example, as my "bridge" camera, and it does that without even trying. They are, however, superficially excellent if it's a common subject for the photo!)
