This week has been Italy’s turn for serious heat as flagged on my previous thread, although it’s starting to fade a little now. Near record temperatures widely.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2022/06/28/record-heat-europe-italy-rome-scandinavia/

A useful catalogue not only of the Italian records but also the wider heat across Europe.

Next place to watch is Spain. The really hot stuff continues to lurk: it’s retreating into Algeria for a bit before making its way back up into Andalusia next weekend, if (as currently predicted) we get a strong AH ridging over the UK. This morning’s GFS has maxes a week on Monday of 47C in Seville and Cordoba, with some 48s on the hi res.

Alpine glacier collapses in Italy, killing five people

It was not immediately clear what caused the section of ice to break away and rush down the peak’s slope. But the intense heat wave gripping Italy since late June could be a factor, Walter Milan, an Alpine rescue service spokesperson, told RAI state TV.

“The heat is unusual,” Milan said, noting that temperatures in recent days on the peak had topped 10 C (50 F). ”That’s extreme heat” for the peak, Milan said. “Clearly it’s something abnormal.”

Just randomly looking at pws on weather underground.

I come across this station in Windhoek,Namibia. Great weather related town name.

And see the temperature is in the low 20s In the day and between 6c down to-1c like tonight

As I'm not much of a heat lover I wish we had summer days like that sometimes.

Flash floods over Death Valley area and yesterday recorded whopping 1.46 inches of rain that 37.1mm the highest I ever seen on my records.  most storms always by passing it and give only little rain but this time got hit very hard.

Temperatures was very cool 24C at night to only 34C day time, that 13C below average.  This give Death Valley a heat break.  Will go back to mid 40's again in the coming days.

Rainfall amount of 37.1 go higher than what we got in the drought effected areas of UK during the summer season so far 1st June to 6th August.

Warmth by night highest ever recorded in the US in July

Even more notable, the nationally averaged daily minimum temperatures (63.57°F) were the warmest for any single month in the 128 years of U.S. record keeping,(just above July 2012) and several other heat records set

Perth had one of its coldest days for many years with a high of 12c yesterday. Temperatures for the majority of the day were in single figures and some suburbs only recorded a high of 9c. 850mb temperatures of -1c resulted in some lively hail showers coming in off the Indian Ocean.

Pesky bigger pictures, always getting in the way of known facts. Suffice to say that particular rag is filed in the bin.

While Europe and parts of the US gaged baked this summer, the real heatwave story of the season has surely been central China.

Nothing comparable to it in Chinas history both in terms of intensity and duration. Similar to the Canadian heatwave last year for sheer scale of departure from standard deviation.

Indeed according to the climatologists this is the most severe heatwave in the world, ever

Pakistan floods kill 1000 people and affect 33 MILLION more.

It seems that the monsoon which normally has a sequence of 3 or 4 bursts of rain, is now on its eighth cycle.
