What makes this record chase even more interesting is that so many locations have a chance for the record form Kent, London,  Cambridge,  EA, East Midlands and even Yorkshire.  My punt would  be somewhere near Nottingham tmrw takes it.

Bilbao having one of its Foehn mornings (or rather, dry katabatic warming - there’s no rain upwind of it). 36C.

It peaked at 43C midway through the 2003 heatwave at around midday before the onshore breeze kicked in. One to watch given the much hotter airmass this time.

The Cirrus naughtius and Altocumulus obnoxious seems to be declining though the Hazus maximus is visible giving the sky a paler blue than I’m used to in recent weeks. Whatever, it seems to have minimal impact on the temps which outside the office on a north facing wall is 27C. Hot in my book though I’m not expecting 40C in this part of the South. Flat calm too.

I reckon it is about a degree warmer than the 2019 record breaker around these parts looking at some local station data.

£0C now here, light breeze which is better than last month June gale force winds at 31C.  This allow the temps to go higher if winds are not too strong.

30.0C reached at 10.44am here.

Looking back at the 2020 heat thread it was only 30.3C at midday.

It's a shame the 2019 heat watch thread doesn't seem to have survived on TWO.

Just hit 32 here, but it took 15 minutes to get that last 0.1C. At least the stupidly fast rises have stopped here for now.

29.7C at the vineyard, meaning I've reached the hottest day of the year so far at 10.05am.

It will be the first 30C+ today since I installed the sensor last August.

Apparently it is in the Classic threads section but it didn't show up when I looked.

Arome was spot on there - I posted on p8: "Arome latest has a small 39C ring around Cambridge."

Good rises this morning. As I mentioned earlier, a late peak today. Suspect we may have a few 33C by 12:00, that gives a 5 hour window of further heating. Usually you get a plateua at around 2pm, but suspect less of that today and more steady gradual rise
