It's the earliest sunrise today, hurrah, so from now on the mornings start drawing in. I feel a bit better already (as I loathe summer). 😁

There are mostly clear skies, just the odd puff of wind, 10.6, dew 9.7 and the overnight low so far is 10.4.

Yesterday's high was 18.7, and a late afternoon stream of showers led to a total of 7.8mm of rain falling - just over half the rainfall so far this month!

Down to West Wittering* for a walk on the splendid sandy beach this afternoon, but not as crowded as I expected. It became obvious, as I walked down from the village in warm sunshine (21-22C?) that the reason was the brisk wind off the sea, and nearly all those sticking it out on the beach had a windscreen. Good visibility, sunny with light cirrus overhead, a mixture of mares' tails and mackerel sky.

* Along with other local villages, the name has been used for a ward in St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, so there is a Wittering Ward. Not, however, the ward with dementia patients; that would have been too cruel!

My time-lapse for yesterday. An interesting sort of day, though on the very cool side again. Starting and finishing with rain, with sunshine in the middle.

It is good that the winds have dropped and long may it continue.

A much better day than of late here in Edinburgh.

The Sun is shining with a temperature of around 18°C which though still not exactly spectacular for this time of year, is better than what we've been getting lately and much more in line with our temperatures should be like at this time of year, thus giving a more seasonal feel to things.

That is very much the summer opposite of that common scenario which we often get in the winter when we get a really mild spell of weather followed by a spell of weather which is colder, but with our temperatures still reaching around 7°C.

EDIT:

After mentioning that the Sun was shining, we now have a shower of rain over the Firth of Forth which is drifting slowly south into the north of Edinburgh in particular.

However, there doesn't appear to much to that on the latest rain radar maps and as our rainfall totals for this month are running quite a long way below average at the moment, I'm not really complaining.

14.6C, cloudy. At 5am there was the proverbial 'red sky in the morning', even if the rain which it would predict seems to be standing off in the Channel.

I've been thoroughly fooled by the weather today!

As it's overcast, I thought it'd be a good day to paint the south-facing side of my posh shed (it needs doing every couple of years). I'd already put one coat on, badly, a few weeks ago, so today would be a chance to finish the job. It's the sort of thing that's incredibly easy to put off, of course!

Bad idea! It is overcast, but the sort of overcast where the sun is too bright to look at comfortably and casts clear shadows. What I hadn't twigged is that thanks to the nearby rain over the Channel, the airmass is much more humid - the dewpoint is, in fact, the highest it's been for a couple of weeks. It was stifling... cooked by the sun and sweating buckets due to the humidity. I did a bit, but the rest will have to wait until later in the week - and I'll do it earlier, too, avoiding such strong sunshine.

Anyway - it's presently 17.7, dew 15.2, calm (thanks to all the trees to the east blocking any wind) and feeling muggy.

Glowering permagloom heavy overcast continues with light NE wind and 12.7C.
It's far more like October than June.

So far this month, we've had just the one day with a temperature of 20°C or higher and that was on the very first day of this month. Given that we're now less than 2 weeks away from the end of the month, that is very poor for a summer month even here in Edinburgh.🤢
