The weather warning for heavy rain here was a little optimistic. It's rained but not a lot.

Early rain has cleared to a rather sultry feeling afternoon. Largely cloudy with only a few sunny spells breaking through. Heavy showers developing now in the channel so expect some more rain later.

Well you'll never believe this. Drove 20 miles NW to see friends in Kirby Stephen (Cumbria) Still cloudy of course but it was 19 C!! Felt lovely......now I'm in SW Scotland in Dumfries & Galloway going north on the M74. I have stopped at services in the first sunshine in nearly a week and it's 21 C!! Feel like I'm in the Med after the week of 14 C drizzle

Earlier forecasts by the Met Office had suggested that we would be very unlucky to get a shower today and what rain we've had from that hasn't amounted to much but these showers are turning out to be more widespread than what was forecast, so it looks as though we might have just been hit by that St. Swithin's Day curse after all.

However, today is our warmest day of this month so far regardless of what happens during the rest of the day, with only our first 70+°F maximum of this month as the temperature reached around 21°C here in Edinburgh just a few hours ago.

Since then, the temperature has dropped back slightly to around 19°C here in Edinburgh.

Today's maximum temperature is confirmed as 21.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, very heavy rain is now falling here in Edinburgh with some very bright echoes showing up on the latest radar maps just to my south.

Currently around 18°C here in Edinburgh.

Thought we had got away with it in terms of rain today, at 6pm we'd only had 5 or so mm.

Up to 24mm now, which looks to be it for the day...maybe

93mm for the month.

One station which you didn't mention though is the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That is shown by the other blue dot in the north of Edinburgh and is the closest station to where I live. However, the SEPA data only shows 0.6 mm of rain there, which is even less than at Gogarbank.

According to weatherobs.com though which uses the raw BUFR/SYNOP data that is used in the official Met Office data, a total of 1.6 mm of rain has been recorded at the botanic gardens during today along with 2.4 mm at Gogarbank, and this shows that SEPA is clearly under-reporting the totals for those two stations once again.

15.5C patchy cloud, showers not far away according to the radar and certainly some cumulus over the Channel.

And 15 minutes later, the showers have arrived.

Overcast, calm, humid.

15.8, dew 14.8 (94% RH), with an overnight low of 14.6. Yesterday's high was 23.8 (in the evening) and there was 7.6mm of rain last night - 5mm of which fell in just 5 minutes (peak 128mm/hour rate).

You wouldn't know we'd had that much rain this morning, though - there are few puddles at the edge of the main road, but it's mostly dry.

Not bad here, mostly cloudy but 20 C and bright. Trying to sort out the poor garden, see what I can save after the poor Spring and early summer, yesterday's torrential shower didn't help. Many perennials just never appeared this year. A few bees but not many and yet to see a butterfly 😥
