I must say I am not too happy with this Gyan fella for £12m, his form at club level is not great in 2 poorer leagues than this.

I agree. I'm yet to be convinced, especially for GBP12m. Put it this way, Huntelaar is likely to go to Schalke 04 for GBP10.5m and is a better player, although thank God we haven't signed him.

I'd rather nothing happened today if it means not paying money for dross such as Parker, or someone like Babel who doesn't really strengthen the squad that much.

Completely agree, we have Campbell and Waghorn who deserve a place ahead of this guy and at £12m we would be spending all the Jones (Kenwyn) money on a poorer goals return. Where is the sense in that

Oh gawd. Parker sighted at Spurs training ground apparently. A pity that 'Arry and Levy aren't sighted.

Babel is a great talent - he was outstanding up to u-21 level for Holland, and was chased by most of the top European clubs when Liverpool signed him. He was just ruined by Benitez (another of a long line of very promising players to fall by the wayside at Liverpool - a massive, massive problem at Anfield).

Has he been damaged permanently? Or will someone be able to nurture him back into the top class player he looked like he could be? He certainly took his Trabzonspor goal like a very gifted finisher.

Good bit of business by Hodgson to get Miereles.. a decent pressing type of midfielder, i think he will be a success at Liverpool.

Incidentally, Liverpool were shockingly bad against West Brom. Roy needs to start knocking heads, because at this rate our season will over by Xmas.

Babel.. said it a few times i do think he is an excellent prospect just ruined by Benitez. Pleanty of time for him to come good.

The way i see it for the usual contendors

Man U / Cheslsea - I dont see any new faces coming in possibly a cple of young uns going out on loan

Liverpool / Arsenal - May do a bit of business

Tottenham - Sure Harry will try to do some deals..... Keane to leave.

Villa - Unlikely

Shiteh - No new signings maybe one or two to leave

What's annoying me is that Liverpool agree the Mascherano deal with Barca, then a few days later AC Milan announce the loan signing of Ibrahimovic from Barca.

Why the hell did Liverpool not make that part of their negotiations with Barca? Of course, Ibrahimovic might have just wanted to play in Italy so Liverpool could have had no chance. But still, I'm really pee'd off with Liverpool's lack of ambition. The distinctly average type of players we've been linked with is depressing.

Unless Liverpool have a big signing lined up where they need more funds, I fail to see the logic in letting Babel go. And, as I really don't think Liverpool have a big signing lined up, I can't see the logic in letting Babel go.

Been popping in and out the BBC livetext thing for the deadline day and this made me chuckle:

Anon via text: "The Wikipedia page on 'brinkmanship' is priceless. Right after using nuclear weapons as an example it says 'Also used by Daniel Levy in negotiating deals to buy or loan players for Tottenham Hotspur FC. He inevitably fails and in desperation buys a "Frazier Campbell" type player in the last minutes of the transfer window'."

Anyway, Saint, be scared, be very scared, as it's now looking like Babel for Cole. God help you if that one pans out.

For us - the score so far

1-Parker to stay at West Ham - phew!!!

2-Pienaar - Spurs deny ever looking for a deal - phew!!!!.

Pletekosa. Good deal, although that one was well flagged in advance. Cudicini should be sold, as he isn't good enough.

Meanwhile, Einstein Anthony Stokes live on TV after signing for Celtic and describing the deal. ''It couldn't have went better''. Nice to know the edukasion system is fully functioning.

I'd rather we keep Babel. And much, much rather we didn't sign Carlton Cole.

We were apparently trying to sign Fernando Llorente from Bilbao, with Insua and some pennies going the other way. But Bilboa apparently told us to come back with a real offer. Dunno if Llorente would have been good, but we do have a good record in signing Spanish splayers called Fernando.

Still, whatever happens, looks like Hodgson will have been a good, obedient doggy for the parasitic owners, delivering them a net transfer credit. Way to go, Roy!

Van Der Fart to Spurs? Good deal if that one's done.

Certainly better than Huntelaar, Babel, Pienaar and Parker.

May I take the opportunity to thank West Ham. Apparently their desire to offload Cole to Liverpool in exchange for Babel scuppered an agreed deal Liverpool had for Babel to go to Spurs.

Still to be determined but 'Arry has gone on TV to say the cost would be around GBP8m. Given Van De Vaart was on his way to Bayern yesterday, supposedly for GBP18m, this is a major masterstroke by Levy if the deal comes off.
