With 4 or 5 hours of solar input to come and assuming increased cloud cover doesn't scupper things (like it did a couple of Julys ago, which Jiries found very unacceptable), how annoying would it be if the highest temp ended up being 39.9 c, just 0.1 c short of the magic 40 c mark?

34.3C at Heathrow at 1pm. Definitely struggling now. All eyes to Cambridgeshire, as the models suggested.

Alot of cloud now heading to our target hot spots, from france.

Going to need a lot of luck to keep the push of heat going. I reckon we will see a cool off of most of our favoured spots soon. But i reckon there will still be one or two stations pushing on heating up

I think Mildenhall might be a contender today. 34.0C at midday and racing up. 1pm figure not out yet.

Managed to get out of a meeting and I am now outside in the heat. Central London is hot, still and feels humid. The breeze of yesterday is nowhere to be seen. Some high cloud around but still >50% blue sky. Feels properly tropical!

Generally a very warm part of the North/Midlands (however you want to classify it)
